      BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations, BCTS plans, develops, and auctions a substantial portion of the province’s annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbia’s public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles, forest sector safety, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

      The GIS Analyst conducts advanced spatial data analysis in support of program and management decision making on resource planning, land management and other program issues.

      Job Requirements:

      • Diploma or degree in geographic information systems, or in a related field, such as natural resources, geography or Data Science and three years of related experience.

      OR

      • Equivalent combination of training and five years related experience.
      • Experience designing and developing customized spatial/database tools.
      • Experience delivering complex spatial/tabular analysis projects in support of client’s business needs.

      Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

      • Spatial and tabular data experience supporting operational forestry.
      • Experience managing / maintaining large and complex datasets
      • Experience in ESRI (ArcGIS) software, Model Builder, Python, R, SQL, JavaScript, Power query, ArcGIS Online.

      About this Position:
      This position is based in Vernon but can be performed in in any Ministry of Forest office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
      Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement once probation is completed.
      An eligibility list may be established for similar vacancies.
      Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
