- Bachelor’s Degree in geomatics, natural resource management, environmental science, geography or computer science or related area, or equivalent PLUS three (3) years of related experience*; OR
- Master’s Degree in related field plus one (1) year of related experience*; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience developing and managing large spatial and attribute data sets and experience with database management tools and applications.
- Experience within the last three years using GIS Software (e.g. ESRI or QGIS) managing and analyzing raster and vector data.
- Experience within the last 3 years conducting data analysis with multiple datasets using a modern programming language.
- Experience within the last three years in data visualization.
- Experience using source code version control with GitHub or similar software.
- Experience with population, health, and other social science data sets including Census data and Statistics Canada data products.

The Ministry of Land, Water and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated water, land and natural resource management and cross-sector legislation, policy, and objective setting for land and marine environments. Building on integrated land and resource management efforts in the past, the Ministry will seek to build a new vision in collaboration with natural resource ministries and First Nations that will embrace shared decision making on the land base.
The Reconciliation and Natural Resource Sector Policy Division leads and supports strategic cross-sector work including establishing structures to promote co-ordination of work relating to co-management with Indigenous Peoples. The Reporting, Economic Analysis and Insights Branch advances cross-sector alignment and integration among provincial ministries by leading a sector approach to socio-economic analysis, scientific research, and investment reporting. Reporting to the Manager of Strategic Investments, the Geomatics & Data Science Specialist supports the Reporting, Economic Analysis and Insights Branch’s development of specialist advice to senior ministry decision makers, and advises technical and professional staff in the ministry, sector or industry on the use and interpretation of corporate data set(s). The position performs advanced spatial and statistical analysis using data from a variety of sources to provide decision support for program, management, strategic or legislative decision makers to maximize the potential of GIS and related geospatial and information technologies to support the business objectives of the program and its clients.
