The Ministry of Forests (MOF) is responsible for providing access to Crown land and resources through permitting and authorizations for economic development activities on the land base. MOF is one of five ministries jointly responsible for managing the natural resource sector and balancing economic opportunities with environmental stewardship.
MOF is accountable for land and resource management in British Columbia, including the protection of the Province’s archaeological and heritage resources. MOF engages in activities that provide environmental, economic, cultural and social benefits to all British Columbians. This work directly contributes to the achievement of the Province’s commitments and goals of lasting and meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
This position is part of a dynamic, high functioning team of cultural resource professionals within the Branch, fulfilling permitting and assessment duties under the Heritage Conservation Act (HCA) and providing expert senior professional advice and direction in cultural resource management to Government and external stakeholders.

Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Archaeology, OR a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Anthropology with a specialization in Archaeology.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities and stakeholders in a natural resource management or cultural resource management context.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in archaeological resource management, specifically research, field work, and reporting.Preference may be given for 1 or more of the following:
• A related Master’s Degree or Doctorate.
• 3 or more years’ experience working with Indigenous communities.
• The ability to hold, or be eligible to hold, Heritage Conservation Act permits, or equivalent (i.e.: permits from other jurisdictions).
• 5 or more years’ experience in archaeological resource management, particularly experience working in the Northwest Coast, and/or the Interior Plateau, and/or Subarctic/Boreal Forest culture areas.For questions regarding this position, please contact Berdine.Jonker@gov.bc.ca.
