- Master's Degree in a related field (geography, environmental studies, resource management, agriculture, land use planning, data science, computer science, GIS, statistics, mathematics) and at least two (2) years of current and progressively advanced related professional experience; OR,
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (as noted above) and at least three (3) years of current and progressively advanced related professional experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
- planning, managing, and conducting large and complex spatial data analysis projects that produce information related to agricultural, environmental or natural resource subjects;
- summarizing and communicating data analysis results related to agricultural, environmental or natural resource subjects for technical and non-technical audiences; and,
- establishing and documenting technical standards, processes and methodologies.
- conducting statistical analysis and/or data engineering using ESRI ArcGIS Pro; and/or,
- developing interactive online applications (hubs, maps, dashboards) using ArcGIS Online.
- education and/or experience in agriculture;
- experience engaging and collaborating with First Nations; and/or
- a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Must be willing to keep up to date with data analytics and visualization techniques and find ways to advance the Branch’s capabilities in analytics.

The Data Analyst and Visualization Specialist is the lead data analyst for the Land Use and Geospatial Unit and ensures ‘best practices’ for converting large and complex datasets into information for the effective management of BC’s agricultural lands. This position collaborates with agrologists, land use planners, and geospatial specialists to design and conduct GIS mapping, data analysis, integration, synthesis, modelling, and visualizations to create new knowledge from data. The Data Analyst and Visualization Specialist leads the development of innovative reports and interactive online tools (hubs, maps, dashboards) for efficient access to information for internal and external decision makers.

About this Position:
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry office locations: Abbotsford, Courtenay, Creston, Dawson Creek, Duncan, Fort St John, Kamloops, Kelowna, Oliver, Prince George, Smithers, Vernon, or Williams Lake.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to five (5) days at home per week subject to an approved Telework Agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
