- A Bachelor’s degree or higher and a minimum of 1 year of related experience*. Preference may be given to applicants with a Master’s Degree or higher, OR
- A combination of education and related experience* may be considered.
- Developing emergency or environmental management plans
- Researching policy issues and/or conducting policy analysis
- Developing legislation or regulations
- Managing projects and/or project components
- Developing internal and/or external guidance and/or standard operating procedures (e.g., could include “how to” documents for following regulations).
- Experience writing information and/or decision notes for senior decision-makers.
- Plan or policy development in emergency response or environmental protection
- Legislative and/or regulatory development
- Plan or policy development in relation to the Environmental Management Act and its associated regulations
- The field of hazardous material response and/or emergency management
- Coordinating multi-stakeholder meetings with federal, Indigenous, local government, environmental organization, and industry participants

British Columbia’s Environmental Emergency Program leads in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from hazardous materials spills in British Columbia. This position leads and manages the development of operational and strategic plans, policies, procedures, guidance documents, tools, legislation, and regulations in accordance with the BC Environmental Management Act and Emergency Program Act to support environmental emergency response in coordination with program staff, internal/external agencies, and stakeholders.

About this Position:
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Currently there are 2 permanent and 1 temporary (1-year) opportunities available.
Temporary appointment until November 1, 2024
The temporary assignment is on-site in Victoria to ensure operational readiness to environmental emergencies.
The permanent positions may be located in Victoria, Nanaimo, Surrey, North Vancouver, Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton, Nelson, Cranbrook, Prince George, Fort St. John or Smithers.
Other locations may be considered; however, key consideration is rapid access (within 1 hour) to an airport to allow for rapid deployment to emergency management incidents.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established for future temporary and/or permanent opportunities.
