      As part of the award-winning Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and within Strategy, Innovation & Planetary Health, the Strategic Advisor is a dynamic self-starter who is resourceful, creative, and client-focused. The ideal candidate is capable of seeing the big picture and yet not shy about rolling up their sleeves to work shoulder-to-shoulder with team members to implement tactics and meet project deadlines.

      This role requires everything from big-picture planning to execution of all tactics to help move our innovation agenda forward. The Strategic Advisor should be able to proactively identify opportunities for internal and external partnership, as well as potential risks, and serves as a trusted advisor, demonstrating a positive attitude, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, creativity, diplomacy and excellent facilitation and communication skills.

      Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Strategic Advisor, Innovation to join the VCH Strategy, Innovation & Planetary Health team. Strategy, Innovation & Planetary Health leads the overall strategic planning and execution processes for VCH – including alignment to the VCH vision, strategy, culture and values.       Role Summary

      As part of Strategy, Innovation & Planetary Health and reporting to the Director, Innovation the Strategic Advisor, Innovation will research and synthesize information on peer organizations, emerging technologies, trends in healthcare and other sectors to bring new insights to support the delivery of the VCH Innovation for Impact strategic priority. An excellent communicator, facilitator and connector, the Strategic Advisor will conceive, create and implement innovative, leading-edge strategies for engagement and partnership with internal teams and external groups to create synergies and increase the capacity, resources and expertise for innovation within VCH. Responsibilities include the identification, engagement and facilitation of internal stakeholders to develop and build alignment around the VCH Innovation Strategy, implement a process for ongoing scanning of healthcare trends, and support development of new and existing partnerships and processes to support innovation within the organization. The Strategic Advisor may also represent VCH in its working relationships with internal groups and entities including VCH Hospital Foundations and the VCH Research Institute and external parties including Health Authorities, the Ministry of Health, other levels of Government, education, and research, and support activities consistent with the strategic priorities of VCH.

      As a Strategic Advisor, Innovation with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

      • Provide confidential, strategic and tactical advice on and implement strategies and action plans relating to innovation with internal and external groups to maximize synergies and increase VCH capacity, resources and expertise for innovation across the organization.
      • Develop and implement a process to identify issues, trends and developments underpinning the future of health care (horizon scanning) to support organization strategic planning including the Innovation for Impact strategic priorities and vision.
      • Partner on the creation, planning and implementation of the strategies for engagement and partnership with stakeholders within the context of the Senior Management vision and in alignment with the VCH strategic priorities.
      • Partner with VCH Communications Leads to co-create compelling communications and educational content, using a variety of media.
      • Prepare reports, graphs, tables, briefing notes, project charters, letters of support, presentations, issue-papers and makes recommendations based on evidence and sound analysis.
      • Establish strong relationships with stakeholders across corporate and operations teams, proactively facilitating the ongoing exchange of information to ensure stakeholders' issues and interests are understood, and that senior leadership understands projects and strategic initiatives.
      • Ensure VCH foundational pillars of Indigenous Culture Safety, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-racism and Planetary Health are embedded within all Innovation strategies and actions.
      • Support VCH participation on internal and external committees and, as appropriate, with organizations at the local, provincial and national levels; and prepare reports on behalf of relevant teams and programs.
      • Perform other related duties as assigned.

      Qualifications

      Education & Experience

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Health Administration or other relevant discipline.
      • Five (5) to seven (7) years’ recent, related experience including development and leadership of strategic partnerships, grants and project management, facilitating and managing consultation processes with a wide range of stakeholder groups or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
      • Excellent communication skills to function within a complex interdisciplinary environment including ability to communicate with the physician community and the business community.
      • Computer literacy with word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management and database applications.

      Knowledge & Abilities

      • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to lead and inspire staff, and build a team environment that fosters trust and respect.
      • Strong interpersonal, customer relations, communication and facilitation skills to develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and lead a variety of complex and integrated initiatives.
      • Possesses business acumen and analytical skills to anticipate financial and business requirements and ensure effective use of resources.
      • Demonstrated commitment to change and process management and experience in implementing large initiatives and leading change management strategies across complex and dynamic healthcare systems.
      • Client service oriented with the ability to identify client needs, communicate, advise and liaise with stakeholders and team members to facilitate collaboration and to ensure needs are addressed in a timely manner.
      • Demonstrated expertise in business case development and analysis including risk analysis and mitigation.
      • Expertise with health system information, program evaluation, health services operations and the external healthcare environment to appropriately analyze complex information, research and policy mandates.
      • Demonstrated ability to successfully apply project management methodology and principles.
      • Excellent oral, written, communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to be poised, tactful and articulate when dealing with senior executives, clinical staff, students, staff and members of the external community within VCH, the province, nationally and internationally.
      • Utilizes initiative, vision, independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to implement project plans and realize project completion.
