      Description

      The Strategic Purchaser at Stevens Industries plays a key role in aligning procurement activities with company goals for cost control, quality assurance, and supply continuity. This position is responsible for developing supplier strategies, negotiating key contracts, and supporting long-term sourcing decisions across multiple material categories—specifically those supporting commercial casework, millwork, and countertops. The Strategic Purchaser will partner closely with manufacturing, engineering, logistics, and vendor partners to ensure our supply chain meets the needs of our growing and quality-focused operation.

      Primary Responsibilities:
      • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for key categories such as hardware and custom components.
      • Identify and develop relationships with strategic suppliers to support company growth, cost goals, and quality standards.
      • Negotiate pricing, contracts, lead times, and supply terms to secure favorable agreements that mitigate risk and ensure supply continuity.
      • Monitor supplier performance (delivery, quality, cost, responsiveness) and work with suppliers on corrective actions and continuous improvement.
      • Work cross-functionally with engineering, scheduling, and production teams to support new product launches and product transitions.
      • Proactively evaluate market trends, material availability, and cost drivers to recommend sourcing adjustments or alternatives.
      • Support Stevens' commitment to Lean Manufacturing by aligning supplier capabilities with internal efficiency goals.
      • Utilize ERP tools to manage purchase data, pricing, forecasts, and supplier performance tracking.
      • Contribute to inventory strategy by optimizing order quantities, lead times, and inventory levels for critical items.
      • Collaborate with Accounting and Operations on resolving invoice discrepancies, returns, and vendor non-conformance issues.

      Requirements

      Education:
      • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
      Experience:
      • Minimum 3-5 years of purchasing or strategic sourcing experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably wood products or related industries.
      • Experience with vendor negotiations, ERP systems, and cost-saving initiatives is strongly preferred.
      Skills & Attributes:
      • Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP/MRP systems.
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work effectively across departments and with external partners.
      • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
      • Knowledge of wood-based components, decorative laminates, fasteners, or hardware is a plus.
