      Position Focus:

The Strategic Analysis team works on many of the most complex, strategic opportunities and challenges facing Yale, providing analysis and guidance that enable University leaders (e.g., provost, deans, VPs) to make decisions that best advance Yale’s mission. The team’s work touches all areas of the university’s mission, both academic and operational, and serves as an internal management consultancy for Yale. The Strategy Associate (SA) will gain exposure to a diverse array of strategic questions and opportunities to apply analytical problem-solving.

The Strategic Analysis team is currently comprised of the Director of Strategic Analysis and 4-6 Swensen Fellows and interns. We are creating a new role, the Strategy Associate, to expand the capabilities of the Strategic Analysis team and build on the success of the Swensen Fellows program.

The Strategy Associate role offers an excellent opportunity to expand on prior management consulting experience in a mission-driven, high-impact role at Yale University. The Strategy Associate will divide their time between leading their own strategic consulting projects and managing Swensen Fellows and/or interns on their projects. The exact number of projects, and number of Fellows/ interns managed, will depend on the complexity of the projects, team needs, etc.

When leading their own projects, the Strategy Associate will design and execute analytical projects using a variety of methods and data sources to meet the needs of our clients and university leaders. The Strategy Associate will assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of the first-year fellow(s)/ intern(s). Specifically, they will hold regular 1:1s with their assigned first-year fellow(s)/ intern(s), oversee their project work, and take the lead on providing feedback and coaching. They are expected to mentor first-year fellows/ interns and serve as their first point-person for questions and advice.

The Strategy Associate serves as a leader on the team, acting as a role model and helping create a positive team culture. The Strategy Associate will work closely with both the Director of Strategic Analysis and the Head of Strategy on broad team issues, such as: ensuring new colleagues successfully onboard to the team, fostering engagement during team meetings, and implementing team-wide processes.

Serving in a role designed for outstanding professional growth, the Strategy Associate will benefit from ongoing, intentional mentorship from the Director of Strategic Analysis and the Head of Strategy, both of whom have extensive experience in private sector consulting (at McKinsey & Co. and Bain & Co. respectively).
