      Structural Durability Engineer

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

Product Development uses design thinking & user experience methods to deliver breakthrough products and services that delight our customers. We bring innovative, exciting, and sustainable ideas to life. We have opportunities around the world for you to contribute to advancements in autonomy, electrification, smart mobility technologies, and more!

      In this position...
Be part of a Ford team responsible for methods development and process evolution. You will be tasked with correlating structural durability life analytical results with on -road data, and the development of methods to improve our predictive capabilities. You will work with the Vehicle Durability and Reliability department to understand high-incident rate issues and develop methods to improve the robustness of analytical component sign-off. In this position, your primary development will be centered around correlation to tested data, so a strong first principles understanding of stress/strain and strength is strongly preferred.

      What you'll do...
Compare legacy analytical predictions to DV testing results for sheet metal failures.
Develop best practices to make smart architecture decisions to improve long term component life
Develop methods for assessing correlation between tested and predicted sheet metal failure incidence.
Investigate methods for improving vehicle-level strain energy analysis.
Work across teams to improve cascade process and drive correlation between analysis and on-road results

      You'll have...
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
3+ years of experience with Material Stress / Strain & Strength
3+ years of experience with Finite Element modeling of strain / fatigue
1+ years of Automotive Engineering Experience

      Even better, you may have...
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
5+ years of experience with Material Stress / Strain & Strength
5+ years of Finite Element modeling of strain / fatigue
3+ years of Automotive Engineering Experience
      Experience in interpreting tested data
Experience with Structural Strain CAE methods
Programming Skills (e.g. MATLAB, Python, etc.)
Experience using SimCenter (LMS) TestLab, nCode and Reliasoft
Experience with MSC ADAMS, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or OPTISTRUCT
Desire to work in fast-paced and highly technical environment
Highly motivated and proactive, with exceptional attention to detail
Strong problem-solving skills coupled with strong communication and teamwork skills
Exposure to sheet metal failure would be ideal.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder…or all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:
