Act as structural designer for small and medium sized projects, with intent to develop skills based on training and mentoring from senior engineers on staff
Interpretation and application of design codes, building codes and specifications
Analyse, evaluate, and determine appropriate design solutions for all types of structures including but not limited to building foundations, building superstructures, miscellaneous steel, retaining walls etc.
Check structural design calculations of senior engineers
Attend site visits related to the condition assessment of existing structures and report on findings
Attend site visits related to pre-design information gathering, construction and postconstruction review
Interface with clients/contractors
Use standard structural engineering software
Prepare and review written reports
Review and markup structural engineering drawings produced by the drafting team
Coordinate work with other disciplines including architectural, mechanical, electrical groups
Work with internal technical processes to ensure the quality of all work
Work within assigned project budgets and schedules
Assist in tender evaluations and/or construction engineering services
Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited university
Master's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering will be considered an asset
Minimum 4 years' experience in design using Canadian building codes and design standards (the majority of the experience should be in the consulting industry with buildings related projects)
P.Eng. status or able to become registered
Experience in building design and renovation projects; design in concrete, steel, wood and masonry; and performing building condition assessments an asset
Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is a benefit
Strong written and oral communication skills. Able to write technical reports under guidance from senior engineers
Must be able to work in a team environment and excel in multi-disciplined projects
Must be able to liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities
Strong aptitude with various software platforms is a must
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
Strong aptitude with technical writing is a plus.
