      The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Student Affairs Fellowship for a 9 to 10-month fellowship for recent JHU graduates interested in learning about the management of a large, complex, and dynamic institution. The fellow will have a front-row seat to learn about strategy and decision-making at a world-class university and will gain indispensable experience in the management and governance of a worldwide leader in education and research.


      One 2022 or 2023 JHU graduate (undergraduate and graduate degrees) will be embedded within the university’s Vice Provost for Student Affairs office and/or with a member of the senior student affairs leadership team. The fellow will provide high-level analytic capacity and project management services on issues and initiatives of interest to Student Affairs leadership. The fellow will report to one /of the members of the Student Affairs Leadership Team and will participate in a customized professional development program, work with a Student Affairs mentor, and work on a capstone project.


      The Vice Provost for Student Affairs Office seeks applicants to this exciting program possessing strong analytic skills (both quantitative and qualitative); excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to work independently to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced setting; a collaborative and flexible working style; and strong organizational skills. The fellow must have a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or other graduate-level degree earned from Johns Hopkins (or on track to be earned) between 5/1/2022 and the program start date of 7/1/2023.


      Specific Duties & Responsibilities


      Student Engagement & Event Planning

      • Provide support for signature and key events such as new student orientation, move-in/move-out for residential students, family weekend, and other critical activities led by Student Affairs.
      • Provide direct support to the Student Affairs senior leadership team and their teams to support programs that promote student engagement.
      • Assist with advancing divisional priorities including student engagement, student organization support, and supporting our increasingly diverse student population.
      • Assist with both small-scale and large-scale event, including Hopkins traditions such as Lighting of the Quads and Spring Fair, that support community building.


      Project Management & Administrative Functions

      • Provide high-level project management for special initiatives.
      • Perform research/bench marking projects as assigned, including data analysis projects.
      • Provide support for staff and student trainings.
      • Represent the Office of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs with a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality, and the ability to interact with a wide range of constituencies.
      • Draft documents and relevant materials, including web-based, supporting on-going education and outreach.
      • Coordinate evaluation data and assist with on-going assessment of administrative processes and special projects.
      • Complete other special projects as assigned by the Senior Leadership Team.
      • Participate in divisional and departmental programs, training sessions, and workshops.


      General functions

      • Establish strong relationship with the Senior Leadership Team and staff in the VPSA suite.
      • Work with autonomy and respect the importance of collaboration with key partners and stakeholders.
      • Maintain confidentiality.


      *NOTE: This is a temporary position that will start approximately August 1, 2023, and end approximately May 31, 2024.



      Minimum Qualifications
      • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
      • Two years office/administrative experience.
      • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

      JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
