      About the Opportunity

      Location: Various locations throughout Nova Scotia. OPOR and IM/IT support a flexible work environment for work from home, in-office, or hybrid model.

      Teams Recruiting for Co-Op Positions:

      The following teams are recruiting students for 2024 Fall co-op/internships (14-16 weeks):

      One Person One Record (OPOR) is a vision and strategy for healthcare transformation in Nova Scotia, in partnership with Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. OPOR consists of a multidisciplinary team with a variety of clinical, business, IT, program management, and leadership backgrounds. The team works collaboratively with internal and external partner organizations to provide expertise in guiding the transformation of healthcare in Nova Scotia. OPOR contains multiple components:

      • OPOR Clinical Information System (OPOR-CIS): This project involves replacing three existing hospital information systems with one provincial clinical information system.
      • OPOR Clinical Standardization: This project is focussed on the implementation of governance, and evidence informed best practice in standardization. The work supports the overall OPOR and represents a coordinated approach to the development and delivery of provincially adjudicated and clinician-developed clinical standardization.
      • OPOR Clinical Adoption, Organization Change Management, Education and Learning, At-The-Elbow (ATE) Support, Public Relations is the organizational focus on implementation of the OPOR-CIS including the ongoing needs for adoption, training, and support related to use of technology in clinical practice. This work supports the overall OPOR strategy of continuous learning, improvement, and care transformation.
      • Program Management Office: Responsible for managing all OPOR related projects.

      About the Opportunity Continued

      Information Management & Technology (IM/IT) is the host organization for clinical application and health information services support across Nova Scotia. The team supports clients across Nova Scotia, including: Nova Scotia Health, IWK Health, primary care physicians, health care providers and retail pharmacies. IM/IT comprises multidisciplinary teams including:

      • IM/IT Clinical Solutions: This team provides ongoing IM/IT operational support, clinical documentation, workflow, process development, data management, standardization, and rationalization to ensure continuous process improvement.
      • IM/IT Process & Business Services: This team is responsible for the requirements, design, development, and implementation of IM/IT process throughout the province and collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams.
      • IM/IT Security & Risk: The IM/IT Security & Risk team manages the IT Security program. From cyber security and threat detection to risk assessments and compliance, they craft and deliver robust solutions. Collaborating closely with stakeholders, the team develops policies, procedures, and cyber incident response methods to enhance organizational resilience. With a keen understanding of enterprise security architecture, they analyze and respond to cybersecurity risks, ensuring a proactive approach.

Our members provide regular one-on-one mentorship throughout the internship term.

      About You

      We encourage you to apply for one of our co-op/internship positions should you meet the following requirements:

      • You are currently completing an undergraduate level or master’s level academic program (or have recently graduated within the last six months)
      • Your academic program of study has a required co-op (s)
      • Your academic program is focused on either Health Informatics, Computer Science, Science, Biomedical Engineering, or Business/Commerce.

      Assets:

      Previous role in a health care setting.

      Solid analytical skills, high attention to detail, excellent communicator, flexibility with shifting focus, open to feedback, ability to independently solve problems.

      Strong project management skills. PMP certification is considered an asset.

      Experience working with clinical data, ability to discern clinical data elements and categorize, ability to identify overall themes.

      Ability to work independently and with a team, adapt well to complex environments, and comfortable working in loosely structured environments.

      Experience using MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, MS Teams, Smartsheet and SharePoint and willingness to learn innovative technologies and applications.

      Hours

      • Twelve (12) Short assignment, Full-time Student Positions
      • Fall 2024 (September-December)

      Compensation and Incentives

      $21.00 Hourly + 4% in lieu of benefits and vacation. Wages are matched to academic program.
