      Department Overview:

      Be a part of the Soil and Forage Analysis lab at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene! This is an opportunity to gain valuable laboratory experience while participating in statewide agricultural testing. We are looking for a reliable and committed student team member for the summer and fall semester with possibility to continue into the spring or summer.

      Department Overview:
      The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) serves as the public, environmental, and occupational health laboratory for the state of Wisconsin, and is part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

      The employee in this position will work within the Soil and Forage Analysis Lab. Duties include preparation of soil, forage, plant, manure and lime samples, preparation of lab reagents, and some basic analyses.

      Lab Location: 4702 University Drive, Madison, Wisconsin (off campus, west Madison)

      Anticipated Start Date:

      As soon as possible, between May 15 and June 1.

      Minimum: 20 Maximum: 20

      Schedule:

      -Up to 20 hours per week.
      -Generally between 8 am – 4:30 pm; e.g. Monday – Thursday, or Tuesday - Friday
      -Schedule is flexible and can be adjusted as needed

      Lab Location: 4702 University Drive, Madison, Wisconsin (off campus, west Madison)

      Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

      Minimum: $15.00 Maximum: $15.00

      Qualifications:

      -Enrolled university student for spring or fall 2025 semester
      -An interest or previous training in science, chemistry, agriculture, and/or soil science

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

      -Attention to detail
      -Excellent communication skills
      -Ability to work independently after training

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      -Preparing agricultural samples including soil, forage, plants, manure, and ag lime
      -Weighing and scooping samples before analysis
      -Working closely with full time lab staff to complete analysis of samples for tests like ash, loss on ignition, texture

      Physical Demands:

      Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds
