- Orientation:
- Develop, coordinate, and evaluate pre-departure and on-site orientation programs in coordination with the program management department
- Arrange the logistics, invite speakers, and deliver orientation content for all center sessions regarding health and safety, housing, and logistics
- Develop and execute campus and city orientations, excursions, and cohort-building exercises and activities.
- Activities:
- Work closely with the program management department to design and implement a program of activities and events that support the needs and learning goals of individual programs
- Develop and implement experiential learning and volunteer opportunities and events for all students
- Conduct student evaluation of activities each term
- Housing:
- Work with supervisor to establish standards and objectives for student housing
- Plan and coordinate all housing arrangements for students to ensure these standards and objectives are met
- Oversee the selection and management of roommates and host families
- Conduct evaluations of housing and host families during each term
- Oversee the communication with housing providers to ensure maintenance requests are adequately addressed
- Health and Safety:
- Provide referrals to individual students for professional counselling and medical services as required
- Keep student information confidential when appropriate and share relevant student information with CIEE colleagues, sending school or parents when necessary to protect student health and safety or to resolve issues
- Perform necessary due diligence to ensure a healthy and safe environment in the office, classrooms, dormitory and during trips for both students and staff
- Plan and update emergency protocols, and introduce these protocols to students and staff each semester during orientation and prior to trips
- Ensure the emergency phone schedule is implemented operational and tested
- Maintain the Student Travel Itinerary and ensure that students register all overnight or long-distance travel outside the city
- Provide appropriate advice and warnings to participants during orientation and throughout the program to help minimize risk and increase student accountability for their own health and safety
- Advising and student conduct:
- Serve as a resource and counsel for individual students, student interest groups, and student populations with unique needs
- Create a welcoming, trusting and open environment
- Be available during business hours for regular advising and by phone for emergencies after-hours
- Communicate applicable codes of conduct and the consequences of noncompliance to participants
- Finance:
- Participate in the budget process and monitor budgeted spending.
- Staff supervision and management:
- Manage a team of permanent and seasonal coordinators, assistants, and helpers.
- Participate in the planning and execution of a strategy to fill key positions necessary for the successful delivery of programs
- Excursions:
- Available for travel on student trips on some weekends and during some evenings.
- Crisis and Emergency:
- In rotation with the other center staff, carry the 24-hour emergency telephone. Additionally, this position requires a willingness to step in if/when a major crisis takes place.
- Other duties as assigned
- Relevant work experience, preferably in Paris.
- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, and French and in English.
- Ability to effectively communicate with students, providers, and CIEE staff internationally.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, ability to engender the trust and confidence of stakeholders in a constantly changing environment, and ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of often sensitive situations.
- Extremely strong customer service skills: ability to resolve often high-ambiguity issues fairly and expediently.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Demonstrated integrity, self-motivation, and a proactive “can-do” attitude.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. and Paris business practices, academic processes, and culture.
- Previous work experience with adolescents/ Pre-College students is a plu s
- Master’s degree or international equivalent.
- Ability to embrace CIEE’s Core Values (Excellence, Integrity, Respect, Inclusion, and Problem Solving) and culture.
- Familiarity with U.S. culture and higher education and direct experience with U.S. college and university students is a plus.

Who you are:
The Student Life Director leads the coordination, quality assurance, and planning of all college and pre-college (high school) student services programming (activities, excursions, etc.) and residential life (housing; health, safety and security, etc.). The position is responsible for developing and carrying out activities and programs that enhance and support the student experience and works in close collaboration with the Program Management department. More generally, it is the job of the Student Life Director to provide intellectual leadership and to ensure a safe, healthy, engaging, and supportive environment.
