- During the summer (June 2-August 9), have the unique opportunity to learn and train in multiple (some pods are 2, 3, or 4 units) specialty units within a department
- Enhanced education with skills days
- Option to stay on and work throughout the year (will require CNA certification from the Maryland Board of Nursing)
- Understand a nurse’s schedule by following their schedule (days, nights, and weekends included)
- Get paid to learn!
- Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing
- BLS CPR certification required
- Possess passing grade in Fundamentals/Introduction in Nursing course
- Required to attend all hospital, nursing, and unit orientation which occurs at a minimum during the first 10 weeks of employment. (36 hours/week) June 2nd-August 9th
Join our dynamic team as a Clinical Nurse Extern (CNE) that allows our students the opportunity to learn at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and/or Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. This immersive externship offers the opportunity tailored for passionate nursing students to work alongside some of Johns Hopkins’ finest healthcare professionals, providing you with valuable mentorship and exposure to a collaborative, fast-paced, and engaging clinical environment. Follow a nurse’s schedule and gain hands-on experience at either Johns Hopkins Hospital or Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center while getting paid for your time, recognizing the value and dedication you bring to our team.
Program Highlights!
This position goes beyond the traditional externship by placing you right at the patient’s bedside, allowing you to be an active member of the healthcare team. As a CNE you will play a vital role in patient care, actively participating in monitoring vital signs and assessments, assisting with ADLs, maintaining accurate I&Os and so much more! Your involvement will directly contribute to providing patients with exceptional and compassionate care. Shifts: Varies; 36 to 40 hours/week during Summer Immersion, a minimum of at least 36-hour shift per 6-week schedule during the school semesters for students extending after summer
