Job Description
- Req#: JR-44726
- Responsible for providing psycho-social support to a group of approximately 60 students throughout their time on the OMET scholarship programme.
- Provide Student Support related activities to students pursuing studies in the Higher Education Sector including contributing to design and delivery of workshops/ webinars.
- Ensure all student related results are received and analysed to amend support required.
- Responsible for ensuring related payments for tuition, meals and transport allowances are paid timeously.
- Have in person 1:1 sessions with all students in the cohort at their institutions of learning.
- Build and hold strategic relationships with critical university staff at the relevant institutions where relevant in order to promote access to support on campuses.
- Updated records in the online OMET system for reporting purposes, ensuring all student records are accurate and updated timeously.
- Attention to detail and a strong commitment to data integrity.
- A strong communicator with extraordinary self-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and alone.
- Support the Programme Manager and Head of OMET in observing all good governance practices as prescribed by the Trust Deed.
- Experience in working with and supporting young adults, ideally in a higher education setting.
- Industrial / Organisational / Psychology / Social Science Degree
- Minimum of 3-years of experience in a learning and development role with a focus on shaping young talent.
- Experience in programme design, including monitoring and evaluation.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Facilitation of workshop experience both in person and virtually.
- Knowledge of working on a data base system – effective use of technology
- Excellent repot writing skills.
- Public speaking
- Focused attention to detail (qualitative and quantitative)
- Have a coaching and | or counselling background.
- A team player with a passion for excellence and a sense of urgency who knows how to follow through with processes and project timelines.
- Strong multi-tasking, organizational, and time management skills - used to juggling many roles at once.
- Excellent MS Office skills with a strong focus on MS Excel (preferred).
- Have good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact at all levels.
- Appropriate knowledge of the management of confidential information.
- Ability to analyse and integrate information and data.
- Excellent planning and organizing competence.
- Comfortable with travelling alone to institutions, including driving.

Role overview
Old Mutual Education Trust (OMET) was started in 2005 between Old Mutual and ten partner unions with a primary mandate of providing scholarships to dependents and members of the participating ten unions. An exciting opportunity exists in the Trust for a Student Support Officer.
Since 2018 OMET has developed a comprehensive student support model to ensure the academic success of its scholarship holders, with a high degree of success. The programme has been extended to now include ensuring that OMET’s graduates are equipped with the requisite skills for life post -graduation. This role is focussed on journeying with a specific cohort of students from when they enter the programme to when they exit to ensure they are successful academically and are contribute to the psycho-social well-being of the students.
The role has a strong administrative component including managing payments to students and recording all interactions on the scholarship management system. The ideal candidate needs a strong, authentic commitment to supporting young, mainly Black South Africans achieving their potential both academically and personally.
