      In an effort to support individuals at the Public Safety Facility that have substance use disorders (SUD), we are hiring a Substance Use Coordinator. This role will be supporting direct access to treatment and will coordinate information, resources, and referrals with District Court, attorneys, probation, and other mental health services providers and provide goal planning to meet the individual’s person-centered goals while completing any court ordered requests. The ideal candidate will be licensed as an alcohol and drug counselor, well organized, and able to facilitate timely communications with contract providers, the courts, probation, and other community providers. The individual in this position will work with a case management assistant and other social workers from the Integrated Access team to focus on person-centered work with people in the Public Safety Facility.

      The people in the Public Safety Facility are awaiting hearings or release related to current criminal cases. The Substance Use Coordinator will be under the Integrated Access Teams work within the Public Safety Facility but will be focused on referrals for in-custody assessments and coordination of this information. This position will be focused on clinical understanding of substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health and medical needs.

      Location and hours:
      This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility at 401 South 4th Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55415 and remote as job duties require. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with flexibility. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

      New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

      In this position, you will:
      • Coordinate and perform review of direct access and comprehensive assessments for individuals with SUD.
      • Engage with community providers, public safety staff and business partners about SUD needs and direct access coordination.
      • Coordinate with contracted providers to complete connections to resources and services.
      • Review and calculate the data related to tracking distribution of work and follow up with requests by the courts and other business partners.
      Need to have:
      • One of the following:
        • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles of social welfare.
        • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and at least 18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the above areas, and three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.
        • Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
      • A valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit .
      Nice to have:
      • Licensed as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).
      • Ability to communicate fluently in Spanish or Somali, in addition to English, both verbally, reading, and writing.
      • Experience:
        • Using databases and computer applications such as SSIS and electronic case filing and performing data entry where accuracy is essential.
        • Working with comprehensive assessment and treatment placement.
      • Ability to:
        • Demonstrate a clinical understanding of SUD and co-occurring mental health and medical needs.
        • Possess awareness and sensitivity to various cultural practices and strengths.
        • Be well organized and facilitate timely communications.
