      Substation P&C Designer

      Job Summary

      POWER Engineers Member of WSP, is currently seeking a Substation P&C Designer in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Freeport, Maine office. An in-office and/or hybrid work environment is available for this position. A remote role may be considered depending on the individual's level of experience and proven ability to work on a remote basis successfully.

      Role and Responsibilities

      • Perform detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations
      • Perform detailed design of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA and communications
      • Familiar with conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, AC/DC service calculations and selection of substation equipment
      • The successful candidate shall be able to contribute to substation equipment specifications, proposal development, and project scheduling
      • Occasional travel will be required

      Required Education/Experience

      • Ability to function as a Substation P&C Designer in our Freeport, Maine office
      • Associate's degree or equivalent technical education
      • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation; experience with both is preferred
      • Understanding of electric utility substation design
      • Electrical and mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail
      • Good command of the Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel and Word
      • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
      • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

      Desired Education/Experience

      • Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design
      • Familiarity with Raster Design and "brownfield" (retrofit) design processes
      • Familiarity with databases and database design
      • Familiarity with Autodesk Vault (or other Document Management Systems)
      • Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, vendor drawings, and such
      • Ability to select materials based on technical requirements
