- Support AL/RM with the management of relationships with alliance clients
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and quality of assigned projects
- Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage substations including, but not limited to
- One-line diagrams
- Schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- SCADA
- Communications
- Station physical layouts
- Sections/Elevations
- Cable and conduit plans and details
- Ground grid design and details
- Foundation plans and details
- Structural plans and details
- Control enclosure design and details
- Lightning protection plans
- Yard lighting plans
- Bills of Materials
- Substation Studies and calculations such as AC calculations, DC Calculations, Lightning Analysis and Voltage Drop calculations
- Inter-discipline coordination activities
- Specify and select substation equipment
- Contribute to substation equipment specifications
- Construction support
- Facility studies
- Site visits
- Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients
- Support Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needs
- Support proposal development
- Support the mentorship and training of other team members
- Shall understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs
- Occasional travel
- BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering), BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, Associate degree or equivalent technical education
- 3+ years of experience in substation design
- Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards
- Experience filling the role of electrical engineer for several substation projects occurring concurrently
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel and Word
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size
- Proven ability and desire to mentor and help others
- Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
- 8+ years of experience in substation design
- Professional Engineering license (PE)
- Experience managing people on a multiple discipline project team
- Experience with MicroStation (V8 or newer), AutoCAD, AutoCADE or Inventor
- Experience in 230kV through 765kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards

Substation Project Engineer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers, a Member of WSP is seeking a motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Power Delivery Substation Department in our Fort Mill, South Carolina office. Classified as a Project Engineer 1 or 2, this role involves a broad range of engineering tasks supporting substation design projects in collaboration with a skilled and dynamic team. We're looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a solid foundation in electrical engineering who thrives in a fast-paced, team-focused environment. A hybrid or in-office work setup is preferred to encourage collaboration and mentorship, though remote work may be considered for candidates with the right experience and a proven ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
The Substation Project Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER’s mission statement and our culture. The Substation Project Engineer is expected to support the Department Manager/Area Lead (DM/AL) in achieving the goals of the department, maintain POWER’s high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients. This position is also responsible assisting with developing, maintaining and strengthening client relationships within the region.
