- Helps coordinate the application and administration of advanced substation technologies such as digital sensing and machine learning of substation equipment operation in support of condition-based maintenance programs.
- Responsible for providing Subject Matter Expert consultation and business deliverables on substation program documentation.
- Provides on the job work direction and technical expertise to substation craft personnel performing maintenance, testing and repairs on substation apparatus with strict adherence to substation safety policies.
- Performs in-depth root cause analysis of substation equipment failures.
- Self-starter with the ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects concurrently in a team environment.
- Demonstrates effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
- Seven years overall work experience in any of the following: electrical work trade, electrical engineering, electrical apparatus, substation construction, or substation maintenance work.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience with SAP transactions and data look up.
- Demonstrates experience using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Good public speaker in front of large groups for training and consulting with Asset Engineering, equipment manufacturer representatives, and other external vendors with regard to substation apparatus design, maintenance, and issue resolution.
- Working knowledge of company and department policies, substation work safety rules and requirements, applicable governmental laws and regulations.
- Advise, guide and work with contractors as a SCE representative.
- Able to work in the field during inclement weather, weekends and hours outside of the regular work schedule in support of substation field crews to meet system requirements, project requirements, and emergency demands.
- IBEW Electrician experience.
- This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

- This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
- Position will require up to 30% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

A Day in the Life
The Substation Technician Advisor works with a team of technical subject matter experts to provide solutions which helps ensure the safe and reliable operation of substation apparatus, transformers, circuit breakers, disconnects, battery systems, static VAR compensation (SVC), series capacitors, power cable and other miscellaneous substation equipment. This Advisor is a substation equipment subject matter expert providing advanced technical consultation to SCE stakeholders while delivering in-depth assessments and formal recommendations to help drive continuous improvement in grid safety and reliability.
