      Description

      Position Overview:
      The ACES Educational Center for the Arts is seeking candidates for a part-time, long-term Visual Arts substitute teaching position for the first marking period of the 2024-2025 school year. This position is scheduled from Monday to Thursday, with teaching hours from 1:00 PM to 4:10 PM. Additional hours are allotted for preparatory time and Visual Arts exhibitions. ECA is a part-time inter-district magnet high school for the fine and performing arts, located in the vibrant Audubon Arts District of New Haven.

      At ECA, students engage in the intensive study of music, dance, theater, creative writing, and visual arts, learning alongside their peers and practicing artists. The ECA community believes in the capacity of the human spirit to create, transform, and connect.

      Responsibilities:

      • Teach Visual Arts classes that meet Monday through Thursday from 1:00 PM to 4:10 PM.
      • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that foster creativity and artistic development.
      • Provide guidance and mentorship to high school students, supporting their growth as young artists.
      • Cultivate an inclusive classroom environment, promoting culturally responsive teaching practices.
      • Prepare students for Visual Arts exhibitions, contributing to ECA's vibrant artistic community.
      • Collaborate with fellow instructors and across disciplines to enrich the student learning experience.

      Position Details:

      • Start Date: Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
      • Schedule: Mondays to Thursdays, from 1:00 PM to 4:10 PM.
      • Compensation: Hourly rate based on experience and education.

      Qualifications


      • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Visual Arts or a related field.
      • Demonstrated success in teaching Visual Arts at the high school or college level.
      • CT Teaching certification is not required, but experience in classroom instruction is essential.
      • Versatile skill set with the ability to teach multiple facets of Visual Arts.
      • Experience with inclusive teaching practices and culturally responsive approaches.
      • Strong communication and organizational skills.
      • Proficiency with current educational technology.
      • Commitment to maintaining a professional work ethic.
