The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. We work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. The Brennan Center’s work ranges from voting rights to campaign finance reform, from ending mass incarceration to preserving Constitutional protections in the fight against terrorism. Part think tank, part advocacy group, part cutting edge communications hub, we start with rigorous research. We craft innovative policies. And we fight for them – in Congress and the states, in the courts, and in the court of public opinion.
We are seeking interns to provide research / writing, administrative and clerical support to staff for our New York office in our communications department with our media, events, and creative teams.
Note: This internship will take place in person at our NY office.
Responsibilities: All interns will assist with general research and administrative work for the Brennan Center, including, coordinating meetings, and drafting routine correspondence. Additionally, there will be opportunities to attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and conversations on program work. In addition to administrative duties, specific responsibilities for each department include:
Digital - assisting with the creation of social media content on all relevant channels (TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook), this includes writing and editing scripts for TikTok, coordinating the production of TikTok videos, drafting tweets, and identifying analyses and trends that can inform the organization’s social media strategy.
Brennan en Español – Help the BEE team with research for different projects, including our newsletter. Write social media messaging and assist with social media posting. Contribute to videos for our social media platforms, including helping with writing scripts, and editing and recording of videos. (Experience on-camera is a plus but not required.)
Monitoring both coverage in the Spanish-language and Latino press, and announcements and events by Latino organizations. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
Editorial – editing content for the website; reviewing longform reports prior to publication; assisting with graphics development for web stories; brainstorming content across platforms; monitoring traffic; providing research assistance for explainers; helping script videos.
Qualifications: The ideal candidates are independent self-starters; detail-oriented; energetic; punctual; and highly organized. Interns must also have excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, as well as a passion for our issues. Experience with Windows, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word a must. Database experience is very helpful. Applicant must be open to evolving responsibilities.

Hours: Monday – Friday (9:00am – 5:00pm EST)
Pay: $17.00 per hour
Duration: May 28th – August 2nd (10 weeks)
