- Legislation/Policy : Work may include reading, analyzing and writing about proposed legislation; researching policy issues; drafting letters of support or opposition to lawmakers; working with grassroots state and local groups to support legislative goals; and possibly attending hearings on pending legislation.
- Print Publications and Website : Work may also include contributing to the development of Giffords Law Center’s print publications and internet-based materials, which provide in-depth factual summaries of federal, state, and local firearms laws and policies.
- Other : The intern will also participate as an integrated member of the legal staff, attend team meetings, and receive constructive feedback about work product from supervising attorneys. The legal intern will work on at least one in-depth gun policy research or analysis project, which the intern may then use as a writing sample.

We are seeking candidates for our 2024 summer legal internship program - policy. Legal intern candidates must be current law students who will have completed at least one year of law school prior to the start of the 2024 summer internship. Strong applicants will have excellent research, analysis and writing skills, and a strong desire to learn tangible legal skills while contributing to our team’s mission.
The internship program is full-time (approximately 40 hours a week), temporary position (eight to ten weeks), beginning June 10, 2024. Summer legal interns are paid a weekly salary of $1280. This internship is a hybrid model with at least 1 day a week in the Washington, DC office and the rest of the time working remotely.

The Legal Internship Program - Policy:
Our internship program gives law students the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge public policy issue that is at the forefront of U.S. politics and lawmaking. Legal interns will gain significant experience with statutory and legislative research and analysis, and can expect to work with attorneys on projects in the following areas:
Legal interns will also participate in a summer-long training program.
