      What We Need:

      Ohio EPA Stormwater Intern

      What We Do:

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

What we need YOU to do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest intern in the Division of Surface Water (DSW) at our Southeast District Office in Logan, Ohio.

No need to bring us coffee. Unless, of course, you want to.

As an Ohio EPA intern, you will assist the technical staff with routine duties, such as receiving training in aspects of office and in-field activities involved in the surface water program. You will assist the environmental engineer in the collection and tabulation of data required to draft discharge permit findings and orders, and enforce referrals and complaints for municipal, industrial, and semi-public wastewater sources.

You are going to visit construction sites to determine compliance with storm water pollution prevention plans, and you’ll perform site evaluations in response to complaints received. As an intern, you will review storm water pollution prevention plans for compliance with NPDES permits and develop reports and letters associated with site inspections and other activities. You are also going to update files, tabulate information needed for monthly or annual administrative reports or surveys requested by central office, outside agencies, or citizens.

Here, you’re not just “an intern.” You’re “someone.”

      • Receive training in aspects of office and in-the-field activities involved in the surface water program and receive orientation to all program areas.
      • Assist the environmental engineer in the collection and tabulation of data required to draft discharge permits finding and orders.

      • Visit construction sites to determine compliance with storm water pollution prevention plans for compliance with NPDES permits.
      • Develop reports and letters associated with site inspections and other activities.
      • Coordinate with stormwater staff and local government, such as Soil & Water Conservation Districts or Community Engineers, to obtain stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWP3s) for construction sites and conduct compliance inspections to ensure plan implementation.
      • Draft inspection reports and letters for review and approval by environmental supervisor or technical staff prior to issuance.
      • Assist stormwater technical staff with industrial site inspections for permitted facilities and summarizing monitoring results.
      • Assist stormwater technical staff in conducting MS4 audits and with assembling audit reports and associated inspection documents.
      • Assist technical staff with the investigation of complaints received for all stormwater program areas or coordinates complaint investigation with regulated MS4s.
