Summer Camp Instructor – Seasonal (May 30, 2023 – July 28, 2023)

SUMMARY:

The Summer Camp Instructor ensures the implementation of services within the Learning Division at Arizona Science Center to inspire, educate, and engage people of all ages through science and to advance educational leadership, quality teaching, parent and community support, and student engagement for success in learning. The Summer Camp Instructor will prepare and present pre-planned fun, engaging investigations and demonstrations during seasonal camp programs that foster inquiry and research-based learning. The Summer Camp Instructor will manage and supervise a group of 15-25 school-aged guests. The Summer Camp Instructor will have the opportunity to travel to different parts of the state to hold camp at offsite locations. The Summer Camp Instructor will participate in other activities to further the educational goals of the Science Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Creates a fun, enjoyable, and safe camp experience for children grades 1-12 by leading them through games, activities, experiments, and investigations that foster inquiry and research-based learning
• Prepares daily activities to include using instructional materials, creative ideas, and assigned supplies
• Sets up the classroom for activities and cleans up after activities by cleaning tables, floors, counters, and chairs
• Supervises activities and monitors children’s behaviors to ensure safety and appropriateness
• Communicates with co-workers, parents, and Science Center employees
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of K-12 educational systems

Knowledge of Arizona Science Standards

Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards Framework

Knowledge of technology applications and integration in K-12

Knowledge of youth development concepts and strategies

Skill in planning and coordinating activities

Skill in effective verbal and written communication and reporting

Skill in problem-solving and decision-making

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• B.A., B.S. or higher in science, education, recreational programming, or STEM field preferred but not required.
• Minimum of two years teaching STEM subjects in a formal or informal environment.
• Camp counselor experience is preferred but not required.
• Certified teacher or teaching experience preferred but not required.
• Experience with family programming
• Experience with student-directed, inquiry-based, experiential learning approaches
