Overview
The American Enterprise Institute seeks an intern who will assist Senior Fellow Philip Wallach and possibly other scholars in the Social, Cultural, and Constitutional Studies department. Dr. Wallach studies America’s separation of powers, focusing on the relationship between Congress and the administrative state.
The intern will assist Dr. Wallach’s work on Congress by researching primary and secondary sources using scholarly databases and academic libraries, analyzing scholarship on Congress from fields such as history and political science, editing, writing, organizing events, and providing administrative assistance as needed. Past interns have undertaken self-driven projects in aid of Dr. Wallach’s research.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in American history and political institutions; a background in history, political science, or political thought; strong research and writing abilities; intellectual curiosity; and a self-directed work ethic. Quantitative analysis skills and bright ideas about using new artificial intelligence tools are a major plus.
AEI’s summer 2024 internship program will have three start dates: May 14, 21, and 28, 2024. While the AEI internship program and all related programming will take place in person in Washington, DC, this spring, virtual interns may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. AEI internships offer a unique opportunity for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain experience in research, writing, business, and communications at one of the nation’s leading think tanks. Competitive candidates will generally have a 3.4 GPA or higher from a top-ranking college or university. The AEI internship program runs 12 weeks.
