      Anticipated Hours Per Week

      2-4

      Schedule:

We are flexible on the schedule, but would likely want to do a few (ideally 3) sessions per week. Based on attention span, we feel 30-45 minute sessions will probably work best. We are consistently available T-F afternoons after 1 pm or on Saturdays and Sundays, any time. We could also do early mornings starting at 7:30 on weekdays.

We will be unavailable the week of 6/22 but are around the rest of the summer and would like to find someone who has full summer availability.

      Salary/Wage Range:

      Hourly $30.00 to $55.00

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

We are looking for a literacy tutor to work with our 7-year-old (entering 2nd grade in the fall). He has made substantial reading/writing progress during 1st grade and just needs someone who can continue to help him grow over the summer. At this time, he is in the middle stage of full alphabetic for encoding and decoding. Our goal would be that he would be at, or near, late full alphabetic in both encoding and decoding by the end of the summer, or making progress in that direction.

If we found the right fit, we could be open to starting before summer starts or continuing after the summer ends, but it is not a requirement to have ongoing availability.

      Qualifications:

      Required:

At least entering final year of an undergraduate degree in elementary education.

Experience working with 7 year olds on developing their literacy skills.

Patience and an understanding of anxiety in young children.

      Nice to Have:

Completed a bachelor's degree in elementary education.

Concentration or focus on literacy, reading, or reading intervention.

An understanding of MMSD literacy curriculum.

Experience teaching in an MMSD 1st grade classroom in the last couple of years (since the literacy curriculum changed).
