      The Superintendent - Heritage Operations will safely and efficiently lead and manage all Cultural Heritage field work across the Weipa Operations which are situated on Aboriginal Land. Considering the complexity and size of the operation, we are seeking a knowledgeable leader to support a diverse team of crew leaders, contractors, Traditional Owners and archaeologists.

      This role requires a resilient and self-motivated individual to interface with a broad range of stakeholder groups, displaying credibility, building trust and influencing outcomes. You will manage the safe execution of cultural heritage surveys, manage implementation of site protection plans, and work closely with traditional owners on country.

      Reporting to the Manager CSP and working in a 9 day fortnight you will:

      • Manage all aspects of Cultural Heritage field work with decision making rights that will shape the weekly outcomes of the team
      • Be an inspiring role model and coach for positive behaviors, practices, and processes, whilst providing leadership, development, and support of the entire Cultural Heritage team
      • Drive a strong safety culture amongst employees and contractors which ensures adherence to procedures for operational activities, site standards and legislation
      • Work collaboratively and foster relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve wider business objectives
      • Measuring, recording, analyzing and reporting on safety, people and productivity to continuously improve performance

      It will also be beneficial if you have:

      • Tertiary qualifications & experience within an appropriate discipline or background
      • Previous experience working with traditional owners
      • Extensive contractor management experience
      • Experience using business improvement methodologies such as : KAIZEN, Lean Six Sigma and Change Management

      This position is a residential role in Weipa. The successful applicant will be supported with relocation if coming from outside of Weipa and will be eligible for company housing. This position whilst based in the township of Weipa, works across our entire mining lease and will require some travel and regular overnight stays at our Amrun operations. This role’s shift arrangement is Day work only working a 9 day fortnight with flexible options in Weipa.

      Where you’ll be working

      Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.

      Andoom & East Weipa are the historic backbone of Weipa Operations and play a pivotal agile role in supporting our other Rio Tinto Bauxite operations, Amrun and Gove. The mines are located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
