      SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

      The Mechanical Superintendent I has responsibility and manages activities associated with car shops, locomotive shops, repair-in-place tracks and Service & Inspection terminals. Specifically, the Mechanical Superintendent I manage the mechanical operations in various locations. In addition, the position serves as mechanical point of contact for multiple state supported services and contracts in the division.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

      Within functional area of responsibility:

      • Manages and directs from conceptual design to project implementation and close-out, the planning, development, integration, estimating, scheduling, and management of resources required to accomplish all aspects of short- and long-range inspection and mechanical service activities within scope, schedule, and budget.

      • Coordinates inspection and mechanical service activities with internal constituencies such as Transportation Operations and Rolling Stock Engineering and local commuter, regional, and state organizations as appropriate.

      • Manages the strict implementation of maintenance alerts, FRA and FDA regulatory requirements, supplier maintenance instructions and SMPs.

      • Implements inspection and servicing process improvements as appropriate to support geographically and temporarily extended areas.

      • Implements inspection and mechanical service-related safety plans and programs.

      • Provides guidance and direction to cross-functional teams, including process focus teams, to ensure proper management and control of inspection and mechanical service project schedules, financials, and resources.

      • Manages the implementation of development, goals and objectives required to safely and efficiently complete inspection and mechanical service programs and projects within scope, schedule, and budget.

      • Monitors the status of materials procurement and ensures proper materials installation.

      • Monitors productivity to ensure efficient resource utilization and makes adjustments and procedural changes as required.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and training/experience.

      • Demonstrated knowledge of railway and rail transit rolling stock to include extensive servicing, repair and maintenance program experience.

      • 11+ or more years of relevant experience (15 or more years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree)

      • Demonstrated leadership experience.

      • Demonstrated experience in project and inventory management; technical supervision; quality control; planning, organizing, and scheduling for procedural and operational methods.

      • Demonstrated experience in budget and financial control; contract management.

      • Demonstrated experience communicating orally and in writing within the corporation and externally.

      • Demonstrated process management experience.

      • Demonstrated knowledge and experience related to safety program methodology and its application.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or in a related field.

      • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic and international railway engineering regulatory requirements

      COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

      Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

      The salary/hourly range is $148,000 , Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, e tc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.       In accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR § 40.25), Amtrak is required to obtain prior drug and alcohol testing records for applicants/employees intending to perform safety-sensitive duties for covered Department of Transportation positions. If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.

      In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for public transportation ( Title 6 U.S.C. § 1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
