      Position Overview:

      This job position is part of the Antarctic Infrastructure and Modernization for Science (AIMS) project. This is an initiative of the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) United States Antarctic Program (USAP) and is a major capital investment effort to support the United States’ world-class science program in Antarctica. The infrastructure modernization being proposed under the AIMS project is to ensure that McMurdo Station remains a viable platform for supporting Antarctic science for the next 35 to 50 years. Parsons is the designer and builder for the Antarctic Infrastructure Improvement (AIMS) efforts under the Antarctic Support Contract with the National Science Foundation. You will be involved in the largest construction project ever performed on the continent of Antarctica.

      You will work remotely at home during the off-season, and then deploy through New Zealand to Antarctica and will be part of the on-site team to deliver this flagship project for the NSF and the United States during site activities. (Projected deployment Sept 2023 to May 2024)

      IPA Superintendent

      We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Construction Superintendent to join the Parsons team in Antarctica. As the IPA (Information Technology and Communication Primary Addition ) Superintendent, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of a commercial construction project from start to finish. Your role will involve coordinating with various stakeholders, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and delivering high-quality projects within designated timelines and budgets. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of construction practices, exceptional leadership abilities, and a proven track record of successful project completion.

      The individual in this role will have technical knowledge in a wide variety of trades and an understanding of construction documents. As a Superintendent for the IPA Project, you will coordinate and manage all on-site activities, work with project teams to deliver successful quality projects, on time and on budget. The superintendent will mentor their team through effective communications and leading by example. The IPA Superintendent must have a disciplined work ethic, high level of integrity, time and resource management skills, and be emotionally resilient.

      Duration:

      The expected duration of this position is September 2023 – May 2024 with opportunities to return in subsequent seasons for similar durations. Must be able to pass the National Science Foundation Physical Qualification Process (medical exam). Must complete a drug screen and background check. The drug screen is a toxicological test that may include alcohol. The background check includes employment and compensation verification, a criminal background check, and verification that educational degrees are conferred from accredited institutions and professional certifications are current.

      Responsibilities:

      • Organizes and allocates the workforces in various areas to maintain adequate manpower balance for the scheduled construction activities.
      • Monitors manpower requirements, efficiency, and productivity of construction crews.
      • Coordinates the material and equipment requirements with planned engineering and construction schedules.
      • Provides technical direction in construction methods to foremen to attain required quality control.
      • Assure quality workmanship in accordance with specifications and industry standards on aspects of construction.
      • Performs in depth reviews of drawings and contract documents to become familiar with requirements.
      • Keeps alert to possible problem areas and takes preventative action to ensure that critical milestones are met for each phase of the project.
      • Prepares reports summarizing progress of construction activities for higher-level management and clients, including highlighting any potential issues and potential resolutions. Documents unknowns or unexpected delays.
      • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with all company and legal regulations.
      • Verifies layouts with field engineers and ensures craftsmen maintain the established controls.
      • Manages long lead items that need to be expedited through the project schedule process.
      • Plans sequence of work using the time frame provided by Project Management. Assists the Project Manager with change order management in defining scope and schedule impact.
      • Maintains a daily log of all activities and site conditions.
      • Understands proper methods and sequence of installation and ensures compliance.
      • Anticipates and resolves various problems such as changes in scope, slippage of schedules.
      • Identifies conflicts in construction process, evaluates possible solutions and their impact and communicates to project teams for immediate resolution.
      • Create and maintain a Look-Ahead in conjunction with the Master Schedule to assure job progress is maintained.

      REQUIRED Qualifications:

      • A minimum of 6 years of experience as a Superintendent or leadership role working for general contractors on NAVFAC or Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) or other Federal projects. OR
      • 10 years of foreman experience in one or more trades: (Ex: Concrete’ Masonry, or Structural assembly on commercial/industrial/military projects, etc). OR
      • 5 years as an Engineering Technician with either NAVFAC or the ACOE.
      • Bachelor's degree in construction related field will be considered in lieu of not meeting the minimum years of experience.
      • Fundamental knowledge and skill with the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
      • High school diploma or equivalent.
      • Possess working knowledge of local and federal laws and regulations which govern construction including OSHA.
      • Ability to read and analyze construction documents and blueprints.
      • Proven leadership skills including ability to lead and motivate construction teams, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
      • Must be able to repetitively lift 50 pounds.
      • Must be physically able and willing to work in a cold-weather environment and to perform fieldwork that sometimes involves long-durations outside in extreme weather conditions and walking long distances without other means of transport.

      DESIRED Qualifications :

      • Completion of Construction Quality Management for Contractors course a plus.
      • Experience with BlueBeam or other PDF software to review and read drawings desired.
      • First Aid/CPR Certified preferred.

      $81,500.00 - $161,400.00
