      Job description:

      Purpose of the Role

      To supervise and execute fabrication, structural repair, and general maintenance activities across the Flotation plant, ensuring maximum equipment reliability, structural integrity, and adherence to safety standards. The role focuses on supporting flotation operations through proactive maintenance and skilled metalwork services.

      Key Responsibilities

      This position must comply with all company policies and statutory regulations related to health, safety, environment, quality, human resources, and finance, in line with the responsibilities and seniority of the role.

      • Supervise fabrication and repair works on critical flotation infrastructure including flotation cells, launders, hoppers, tanks, chutes, platforms, and pipework.
      • Monitor the availability and correct usage of PPE by all team members.
      • Report directly to the Senior Supervisor – Flotation Maintenance.
      • Act as a communication bridge between the flotation operations team, maintenance workshop, and management.
      • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in fabrication bays and float plant areas.
      • Inspect welding equipment, lifting tools, and portable gear used for plant repairs.
      • Conduct inspections of first aid kits and firefighting equipment in line with company checklists.
      • Carry out hazard identification and Planned Task Observations (PTOs) across flotation areas.
      • Ensure team adherence to timekeeping, safety procedures, and job execution protocols.
      • Lead incident and accident investigations related to maintenance and fabrication activities.
      • Review and raise work orders and requests for repairs on flotation plant assets.
      • Maintain effective relationships with flotation operators, mechanical fitters, and other maintenance personnel.
      • Schedule and prioritize daily and weekly jobs related to flotation tank structures, walkways, supports, and piping systems.
      • Compile accurate time sheets for the Boilermaking/fabrication team.
      • Organize required materials and consumables via warehouse requisitions.
      • Conduct job-specific risk assessments for non-routine or high-risk maintenance tasks.
      • Estimate material and man-hours for fabrication and structural maintenance works.
      • Inspect completed and in-progress jobs to ensure proper layout, alignment, and weld quality.
      • Attend weekly maintenance planning meetings for flotation plant operations.
      • Be available for breakdowns, call-outs, and shutdown assignments.
      • Set job timelines and monitor progress through to completion.
      • Provide on-the-job coaching and upskilling opportunities, with a focus on developing local Zambian talent.
      • Plan and supervise structural tasks during plant shutdowns, including tank repairs and support modifications.
      • Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor or engineering team.

      Qualifications

      • Grade 12 School Certificate
      • Craft Certificate in Metal Fabrication/Boiler Making or Structural Welding
      • Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
      • Certification in Incident and Accident Investigation (added advantage)

      Experience

      • Minimum 3 years in a supervisory role within a flotation or processing plant environment, with proven experience in structural maintenance, welding, and metal fabrication for mineral processing equipment.

      • Ability to work with minimal supervision and under pressure.
