- Supervises and evaluates the daily performance workflow and the engagement of patient advocate staff to detect unsatisfactory trends or performance deficiencies. Is accountable for the development of current and future training and goals for the department.
- Coordinates, investigates, and provides resolutions between interdepartmental opportunities regarding prior authorizations, co-pay assistance, and other programs with respect to other department patient advocates, billing/revenue cycle teams, and others as applicable. Facilitates relationships and workflows with outside departments including patient access, denial management, revenue cycle and business office.
- Monitors and provides root cause analysis as needed on denials. Ensures follow up on retrospective authorizations or working of denials for acquiring payment from payers.
- Develops, implements, and updates department specific policies, procedures, and competencies related to effectiveness of the department goals. Optimizes EMR to ensure workflows that allow for all needed services to be authorized and re-authorized as well as transparency to authorization information between departments.
- Investigates alternate funding from non-profit foundations or manufacturer sponsored compassionate care programs as needed.
- Fills in for Patient Advocate staff when necessary.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Associate's in social work, health care administration, or medical coding; related experience in health insurance, billing, coding or pharmacy; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A Brief Overview
Responsible for the supervision of patient advocate staff by coordinating communication and workflow with patient advocates, clinic care teams and outside departments to create a positive outcome for patients and staff. A successful Supervisor assists with the development, implementation, and standardization of education and training for patient advocate staff and ensures patients are provided needed coverage or cost- related education, necessary patient assistance and follow-up, and authorization of services.
