      Overview of the Role:

      The Quality Control Supervisor’s primary responsibilities encompass leadership of the sites employees to ensure food safety and customer requirements are met and that all manufactured products are of the highest levels of quality. Reporting to the QC Manger, this role forms a key part of our leadership team. The QC/Lab Supervisor is responsible for leading our Lab employees and overseeing the day to day Lab Assigned work to ensure objectives are met for quality, safety, efficient and cost-effectiveness in the Food Quality and Food Safety Control Protocol. Must work closely with all plant departments to ensure that the plant’s Food Safety System meets the requirements from regulatory agencies, customers and third-party auditing agencies. The successful candidate will possess a high degree of initiative, is self-motivated and work well under pressure.

      How you will make contributions that matter:

      • Food Safety and Quality:
      • Monitors, reviews and implements quality programs to ensure compliance to CFIA/HACCP and customer/third party and internal audit requirements;
      • Schedule lab task and employees to meet lab testing requirements and deadlines; Maximize the efficiency and effectiveness to Lab Department Assigned work.
      • Review and maintain the appropriate inventory and stock levels.
      • Supervise and coordinate laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance requirements;
      • Ensures internal liaison with the appropriate parties to communicate and/or address any quality issues;
      • Develop procedures and protocols to ensure Lab testing structure is in place, updated and maintained; monitor for compliance to procedures and working instructions;
      • Investigate and resolve quality deviations and customer complaints; report and communicate findings as necessary;
      • Ensures consistent application to best practices related to testing/inspection methods, analysis and auditing techniques;
      • Coordinate and conduct internal audits of the GMP and Food safety and quality control programs for the plant, the Quality Assurance and Food Safety procedures as well as related activities in the plant; develop and implement corrective actions based on results of the audit;
      • Timely communication of quality issues to local management and upper management as they arise;
      • Ensure complete and accurate records related to all Lab activities are maintained including documentation of amendments to the related Food Safety and Quality Control Programs;
      • Reports trends and communicates key food safety and quality parameters and participates in correction of negative trends;
      • Maintain finished product release program;
      • Ensuring compliance to company standards for environmental monitoring programs
      • Provide training, support and maintains Saputo Dairy Products Canada G.P.’s quality standards;

      • Health and Safety:
      • Provide leadership, direction, guidance, supervision, evaluation, motivation and training of Lab personnel to ensure work is completed efficiently, effectively and safely;
      • Ensure that safe conditions exist at all times within in the work environment; take appropriate and effective measures to provide for the health and safety of employees;

      • Plant Human Resources Management and Labor Relations:
      • Develops and fosters strong and effective functional and cross-functional teams;
      • Administer the collective agreement, Company policies and standards;
      • Undertake other functions as required;

      You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:

      • Associate degree required (Bachelor’s preferred) in Food Science, Microbiology or related field would be an asset;
      • Previous management experience in Quality Control or operation within the Dairy, beverage or food processing industry;
      • Sound communication and interpersonal skills; Strong organizational and analytical skills and a strong team orientation; Demonstrated leadership skills, preferable in a unionized environment;
      • Proficiency and dependability in current position;
      • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, analytical and organization skills;
      • Must be available to work all shifts as required.
