- Have 2-3 years of leadership experience
- Have a High School diploma or GED
- Able to work 24/7 as required to meet customer and business needs including nights, weekends and holidays
- Willing to work extra hours to meet deadlines
- Subject to on-call and must respond to emergencies at any time
- Capability to work in a field environment, climb ladders and walk on uneven surfaces safely
- Willing to travel to various locations in a geographic region and remain on site for extended periods, sometimes days or weeks at a time.
- Reasoning development sufficient to apply principles of rationale systems such as electrical or electronic circuit diagrams
- Must have strong interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication skills, managerial and leadership ability
- Computer literacy and basic accounting skills are required
- 1-2 years’ experience with railroad signal maintenance, construction, or design
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management, or a related field, or completion of trade or technical school training in the electrical field is required.
- A minimum of ten years' experience in railway signaling is desirable
- Experience with financial applications and budget management
- Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft desktop applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of company operations relative to the Engineering Department
- Knowledge of General Operating and Safety Rules and a thorough knowledge of Signal Section operation and the function of systems for which it is responsible
- Knowledge of Signal Department rules and regulations and Department of Transportation, Federal Railroad Administration regulations

The BNSF Railway Engineering Department is responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining the infrastructure of our extensive rail network. This crucial role involves applying advanced engineering principles to address complex challenges, ensuring the safety and efficiency of our operations. This is a full-time position located in Pasco, WA.
Travel may be necessary for this position. Candidates may be asked to travel to locations in a geographic region and remain on site for extended periods, sometimes days or weeks at a time.
Key responsibilities may include:
Establish short-range objectives for and assign responsibilities to maintenance and construction personnel on territory. The Pasco Supervisor position oversees 16 Union employees that cover 130 miles of mainline signal systems including two movable bridges, the Pasco Classification Yard, and multiple electrical assets/facilities
Assist Manager Signal in arranging for delivery of construction and maintenance materials, tools and work equipment to proper destination and anticipating and make provisions for special requirements of materials, tools and work equipment for maintenance and construction personnel
Establish objectives and plan work programs for both maintenance and construction
Conduct program of safety education for maintenance and construction personnel
Directly supervise the signal maintenance, signal construction, and Electrician personnel so that established objectives will be met
Render technical advice and assistance when required by personnel or to representatives of other departments
Define and describe to personnel the technical aspects of new methods or systems to be employed, including the proper use of special tools, instruments and electronic equipment
Provide leadership and exercise resourcefulness in accomplishing the repair of signal and electrical systems when damage has occurred as a result of derailments, collisions, severe storms or other destructive force
Determine that all policies and procedures have received compliance by subordinate personnel
Determine progress at prescribed intervals of maintenance and construction work
Determine, by suitable means, that signal and electrical systems are performing properly and that prescribed testing and inspection procedures, and maintenance standards are being conformed with
Determine by examination that personnel are adequately knowledgeable of Safety and Operating Rules
Manage operating budget allocation and establish requirements for future year’s budget.
Manage capital spending within budgets
Daily work is conducted in an indoor/outdoor safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.
