Job Description

- Administers the daily activities related to the collection, storage retrieval, release, and purging of property collected by the Prince Georges County Police Department.
- Secures and maintains records of all confiscated and recovered property.
- Prepares all paperwork for property being sent to auctions and destroyed.
- Assists with purges, transportation, and destruction of stored material.
- Process gun hearing applications, ensuring that all gun hearing applications are properly handled, and background checks are completed for the OIC to review. When necessary, will conduct gun hearings.
- Maintains an orderly method for storage of firearms in accordance with established departmental guidelines.
- Maintains accurate and detailed logs of all property that has been purged from the facility.
- Demonstrates a good knowledge of firearm handling and chain of custody procedures.
- Prepares written reports.
- Handles and clears firearms safely.
- Handles confiscated money, jewelry, and bio-contaminated items safely.
- Works in partnership with internal and external customers to assist in finding resolution to immediate problems.
- Must have experience at the Supply/Property Clerk II level equal to the probationary period (6 months)
- Possess high school diploma or GED certificate
- Two (2) years of experience in varied inventory control work including purchasing, distribution, invoicing and/or procurement and stocking a broad variety of equipment, materials or supplies
- Working knowledge of the Records Management Systems (RMS)
- Working knowledge of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database system
- Working knowledge of firearm handling
- Pass a drug screening.
- Pass a background investigation.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Be willing to work assigned shift work (days/evenings/weekends/holidays).
- Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
- Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
- Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.
- Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies.
