- With little or no direction from the Coordinator of Academic IT, the Technician III - Academic IT will: support computer labs as designated, ensuring high up-time of computer labs and classroom technology; diagnose and repair workstations for end users using diverse network topologies and protocols; maintain computers and ancillary equipment such as workstations, laptops, printers and scanners; perform regular hardware maintenance; provide computer hardware and software expertise to academic and administrative end users; research and evaluate computer hardware, and software applications; determine and recommend solutions.
- Installs, configures, and tests PC hardware, software, peripheral devices, applications, operating systems, and network connections. Maintains and repairs new and used computers and peripheral devices; implements and monitors hardware and software security.
- Assists in evaluating new and existing products to make recommendations for improved performance and upgrades. Creates accounts for, maintains security of, and trains faculty and staff on enterprise academic systems.
- Remain current in new computer technology and advancements in hardware and software; prepare and ensure accuracy of knowledge base articles. Maintain a positive and professional relationship with faculty, staff, and students, and provide exceptional customer service by performing specific assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner, and attend regularly scheduled meetings as required.

- Knowledge of various computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, power point, internet tools, email systems, and other general computer programs.
- Knowledge of directory-based authentication (e-Directory or Active Directory).
- Advanced knowledge of and experience working with at least 2 of the following: Mac OS, Windows OS and AD.
- Skill in installing and monitoring servers.
- Skill in working in a customer service, team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Skill with imaging using software such as WDS or SCCM.
- Skill in backing up and restoring data.
- Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP and application network protocols, firewall management, operating system configurations, anti-virus software, and VPN.
- Skill in installing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware and software problems and researching technical issues on Mac OS and/or Windows OS. Advanced technical experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting peripheral devices such as printers (local and network), scanners, tablets and smart phones.
- Strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills.
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to be highly self motivated with the ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work in a customer service, team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
Utah Valley University is seeking a motivated, part-time Technician to provide crucial support for our computer labs and classroom technology. This position involves ensuring high uptime for computer labs, diagnosing and repairing workstations, and maintaining computers, laptops, printers, and scanners with minimal direction from the Coordinator of Academic IT. The role requires proficiency in diverse network topologies and protocols, as well as the ability to provide hardware and software expertise to both academic and administrative end users. The Technician will also be responsible for researching and evaluating new computer hardware and software, and recommending solutions to improve system performance.
This position offers a unique opportunity for career growth as part of a career ladder, with title and hourly pay based on the incumbent’s education and experience. The position is part-time, with hours from 8 AM to 1 PM.
Technician 1: Any combination of post secondary education and work experience related to the essential duties totaling 3 years, 2 years of which must be directly related the essential duties. Also requires successful completion of 1 current industry recognized certification within 6 months of hire.
Technician II: Any combination of post secondary education and work experience related to the essential duties totaling 4 years, 3 years of which must be related to the essential duties of the position. Also requires successful completion of 1 current industry recognized certification within 6 months of hire.
Technician III: Any combination of post secondary education and work experience related to the essential duties totaling 5 years, 4 years of which must be related to the essential duties of the position.
