Position Summary:
The Surgery Attendant contributes to the implementation of the perioperative nursing plan of care under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Practical Nurse. This position provides clerical services for effective and efficient operation of the section. Performs delegated nursing tasks and environmental functions necessary for the care of the surgical patient, and in support of St. Claire HealthCare’s mission.Duties/Responsibilities:
• Performs assigned tasks to maintain a safe patient environment according to policy and procedure.
• Performs safe patient transfer/transport procedures according to policy.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the perioperative area according to departmental policy and procedure.
• Adheres to principles of aseptic technique.
• Performs nursing tasks as assigned by the nurse to promote perioperative nursing care.
• Contributes to the efficiency of the department.
• Maintains and communicates accurate patient appointments according to established procedure with changes made as appropriate.
• Admits/Registers patient according to established procedure.
• Uses St. Claire HealthCare resources and equipment in performing duties that enhance communication between ancillary departments, surgical services, and the community.
• Discharges patient according to established procedure.
• Unpacks and distributes surgical supplies delivered from the stock room.
• Keeps surgical materials organized and stocked according to par levels.
• Communicates daily with Surgical Nurse Manager/Director concerning supply needs or other related issues.
• Effectively communicates information concerning inventory/equipment status.
• Pulls supplies and equipment for surgical services.Education:
High school education or equivalent.Experience:
One year in surgery or materials management preferred. Excellent communication skills. Mathematical and reading skills required. Previous nursing assistant or environmental assistant experience in an acute care setting preferred.Licensure/Certification:
