What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Achieve coding accuracy of 95% or above for inpatient and outpatient records
- Abstract patient medical records to assign appropriate codes, including CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS
- Coordinate and ensure accuracy of patient encounter billing information before submission
- Resolve coding denial requests and collaborate with billing teams to address issues
- Develop and distribute written procedures to improve coding and billing processes
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 4 years of professional or hospital experience in coding, including ICD-10-CM or CPT
- Certification from AAPC or AHIMA (e.g., RHIA, RHIT, CCS)
- Ability to pass an internal coding test to qualify as a Level 3 coder
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with various stakeholders
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Accredited Coding Program, Associate or Bachelor’s degree, and specialized coding credential
- Experience with EMR systems, particularly EPIC and 3M encoder
- Knowledge of OPPS guidelines, medical necessity guidelines, and CCI edits
- Coursework in anatomy/physiology or medical terminology related to coding
- Membership in the American Academy of Professional Coders or AHIMA certification
