      Salary Range: $29.40 - $31.43

      Position Summary

      Under supervision, is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of surgeries and post-operative appointments The Surgical Coordinator also assists in the efficient and effective utilization of the daily surgery schedule and facilitates the flow of surgical patients

      Job Responsibilities

      • Responsible for monitoring surgical schedules and physician availability to manage release time accordingly and in advance.
      • If applicable, provides front desk and check-out coverage as needed.
      • Functions as liaison between surgeon, operating room (OR) scheduling team, and surgical patients.
      • Conducts all surgical pre-determination, authorization, pre-certification and related appeals. Transmits all correspondence to insurance companies for medical necessity inquires. Manages processes and documentation to ensure no surgical scheduling delays.
      • Communicates detailed information and answer patients' questions regarding surgery preparation instructions and arrival/departure instructions relative to procedure.
      • Prepares the patient’s medical chart with all necessary surgical paperwork. Scans patient documents in the practice management system.
      • Coordinates and schedules surgeries, post-operative appointments and other related tests as ordered by the provider. Coordinates arrangements for surgical assistants, special equipment and surgical materials and establishes the order of surgical patients.
      • Ensures surgeons are well informed on the status of their cases.
      • Provides feedback to management on process improvements or opportunities for utilization enhancement and patient flow efficiency.
      • Trains support staff for back-up responsibilities.
      • Assists physicians with administrative tasks related to patient communication and care, including phone calls, messaging, mailing, faxing and scanning documents.
      • Verifies patient insurance eligibility and obtains necessary pre-authorization numbers, if required, prior to appointment date. Facilitates the communication and collection of any fees due from patient.

      Education

      • High School Diploma

    Experience

    Approximately 2 or more years of experience in a patient-facing clinical setting

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Previous experience using computerized appointment scheduling systems (EPIC preferred) and/or electronic Medical Record (eMR) system (ideally EPIC-Care).
    • Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding.
    • Working knowledge of third party payor reimbursement - Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and commercial insurance.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology.
