      Pay Range: $20.23 - $31.36

      The base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity and contracts.

      The Surgical Coordinator is a hybrid role that combines administrative and clinical responsibilities to support a high-functioning dermatology and surgery practice. This position ensures seamless patient coordination, assists in clinical procedures, manages administrative workflows, and supports the physician in delivering high-quality dermatologic and surgical care. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced in both the roles of a medical assistant and surgical coordinator within a dermatology setting.

      • High school diploma required

      • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred in healthcare administration, or a related field.

      • Minimum of 2 years in a dermatology or surgical practice.

      • Hands-on experience with Mohs surgery assisting and patient coordination.

      • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and medical scheduling.

      Patient Coordination & Communication

      · Schedule Mohs surgery and dermatology patients, ensuring proper sequencing and time allocation.

      · Educate patients on pre-operative and post-operative care, addressing concerns regarding procedures and recovery.

      · Obtain and verify insurance authorizations, referrals, and necessary documentation for Mohs surgeries.

      · Serve as the primary contact for patient inquiries related to surgery scheduling, pathology results, and follow-ups.

      · Coordinate pathology specimen processing and ensure accurate documentation.

      · Facilitate referrals for patients requiring advanced surgical intervention beyond the Mohs practice scope with tertiary referral centers.

      · Serve as a liaison between the Mohs practice, tertiary surgeons, and patients to ensure continuity of care.

      Clinical Support

      · Assist the Mohs surgeon during procedures in accordance with established standards, anticipating needs and providing support for various dermatologic and surgical interventions, including Mohs surgery, biopsies (punch, DIF, and shave), excisions, electrodessication and curettage, and incision and drainage.

      · Prepare surgical room, practice clean technique, and ensure all surgical instruments and supplies are ready for use.

      · Perform wound care, suture removal, and bandaging per physician instructions.

      · Take patient vitals, update medical history in the EMR system, and assist with patient intake and education.

      Administrative & Operational Efficiency

      · Maintain accurate and up-to-date Mohs surgery logs and clinical documentation in compliance with regulations.

      · Maintain and record relevant Mohs scheduling statistics, including wait times, case volumes, cancellation rates, and patient flow metrics to optimize scheduling efficiency and resource allocation.

      · Collaborate with front desk and billing teams for insurance verification, coding, and prior authorization claims submission.

      · Order and manage supplies for Mohs procedures, ensuring proper inventory tracking.

      · Ensure biopsy and referral information is complete before surgery scheduling.

      · Maintain regulatory compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other healthcare standards.

      · Identify workflow improvements and assist in implementing new protocols to enhance patient care and efficiency.

      · Maintain and update educational materials and documents related to patient education, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for patients.
