      POSITION SUMMARY

      Our Surgical Counseling Coordinators are responsible for supporting the in-house Surgical Counselors by assisting with the cataract and LASIK surgery experience. Surgical Counseling Coordinators are responsible assisting the Surgical Counselors in taking our patients through the process of preparing for the surgical day by coordinating scheduling, gathering needed documentation for pre-certification, providing patient education and knowledge of insurance carrier.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

      • Collect fees for specialty lenses

      • Collect co-insurance or co-pays when applicable

      • Confirm pre-certification from insurance carriers received prior to procedure

      • Discuss implant options and self-pay fees including financing options

      • Send necessary paperwork to authorization specialist for eligibility, benefits and authorizations.

      • Make outbound calls to patients reminding them of LASIK Consult and/or Pre op appointments.

      • Make outbound calls to patients who have requested additional information, want to make changes to, or are ready to schedule surgical procedures.

      • Schedules general clinic patients for follow up or additional appointments.

      • Make outbound calls to patients to confirm the cost of surgical procedures and schedule surgical procedures.

      • Make outbound calls to patients to follow-up and reschedule patients who have missed surgical procedure appointments.

      • Prepare packets to be used for surgical scheduling.

      • Prepare financial sheets for use by surgical scheduling team.

      • Counsel and educate the patient about their upcoming surgery and lens options.

      • Set surgery dates, including all post-surgical/treatment appointments.

      • Issue refunds for cancelled surgeries.

      • Send for Medical or Retinal clearance as necessary.

      • Special projects or as requested by Practice Leaders or lead surgical counselors.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

      • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

      • At least two years of work experience in a medical office setting.

      • Prior Surgical Counseling experience preferred.

      • Previous sales background is required.

      • Knowledge of insurance carrier policies and procedures

      • Use of kindness, empathy and patience when dealing with our patient population

      • Attention to detail

      • Comfortable with sales aspect of specialty lenses

      • Ability to multi-task

      • Ability to work as a team member

      • Requires skills in operating computers, EHR, word processing software, fax machines and copier machines.

      • Cooperates and effectively communicates with all staff members and physicians about patient matters.

      • Word processing software, Microsoft Word.

      • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

      • Knowledge of basic eye care and hygienic methods and practices involving the treatment of the eye.

      • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage interactions with difficult people.

      • Knowledge of medical terminology.

      • Strong knowledge of pharmacy abbreviations
