      Description:

      2. Provides surgical assistance in the operating room for at least 2 surgical specialties (Orthopedics, Vascular, Plastic, General surgery) and 2 complex (laparoscopic and/or robotic) specialties (Bariatrics, GYN/ONC, Thoracic, or Davinci Robotic surgery) upon request to any surgeon with a delegation agreement and as assigned by the Clinical coordinator of APPs/designee. Obtains and maintains Davinci First Assist Certification.

      3. Performs daily post-operative rounds and facilitate/coordinate care of the patient as requested by the supervising physician. Performs admission history and physical examinations, daily progress notes, daily orders, discharge, transfer and death summaries, discharge/transfer orders and prescriptions for all patients admitted to them by the attending surgeon. Evaluates patients in the Emergency Department and on the surgical floor at the request of the attending surgeon.

      4. Performs bedside procedures including incision and drainage, central venous catheter placement, tube thoracostomy, arterial catheter placement, peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), thoracentesis, and paracentesis when credentialed to perform said procedures.

      5. Provides instructions and guidance as a preceptor to surgical PA students and new graduates.

      6. Supports Quality initiatives of Holy Cross Hospital including medication reconciliation, universal time out procedures, SCIP, VTE prevention, and electronic documentation

      7. Supports timely, accurate and compliant professional billing.
      • Must possess the clinical skills and critical thinking to manage acutely and severely ill inpatients.

      • Will be required to work independently as the surgical provider in the hospital at times.

      • Weekends, nights, and on-call hours are required

      • Physical Requirements : Works within inpatient hospital environment on inpatient floors, post-operative units and remote outpatient locations . The employee must have endurance for long procedures in the operating room . Other physical requirements for this position include lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling, motor coordination, communication skills

      • Must be able to lift 35 lbs . Must be able to bend body downward at waist.

      • Visual Acuity : The worker is required to have close visual acuity.

      • Environmental Conditions : The worker is subject to hazards associated with a hospital environment.

      • Safety Responsibility : Responsible for identifying all hazardous materials in the work area and all employees with potential exposure to provide them with the necessary personal protective devices and appropriate training . Responsible for assuring that all employees strictly adhere to all measures necessary for compliance with hospital safety policies and applicable Federal, State, and Agency safety-related requirements and regulations.
