      Surgical Tech Apprentice Program

      40 Hours Weekly, Full Time, Dayshift

      Deadline to apply: February 29, 2024

      This a paid training program offered for candidates interested in pursuing a Surgical Tech position within the OR with Baptist Health LaGrange.

      The surgical technician apprentice will be training in a classroom setting for approximately three months upon entry to their role. This education will consist of textbook review, lectures, hands on education, learning sterile technique, simulations, and observations. Upon completion of the classroom education, the surgical tech apprentice will move into the clinical portion of the training. This will include performing duties defined for a surgical technician under the guidance/direction of a surgical technician, the operating room nurse, the SPD/Endo Supervisor, OR charge RN, Nurse Manager, and/or Director. They will provide care of surgical patients by providing surgical instrumentation/supplies appropriate for the surgical/endoscopy procedure, and the provision of a sterile field for surgery. Included within this assignment is the responsibility for ensuring effective communication between him or herself, the charge nurse, the patient, other staff, physicians, and other hospital departments. The surgical technician apprentice will also perform duties within the Sterile Processing Dept. under direct supervision. The surgical technician apprentice ensures provision of safe, competent care to all surgical patients. All duties/tasks outlined above, and assigned to the surgical Technician apprentice, may be performed independently without direct oversight if the apprentice has been completely checked off and competent to perform such duties/tasks.

      Requirements:

      High school diploma or equivalent

      BCLS required within 1 year of hire

      Endoscopy Certification required within 18 months

      Communicate and work effectively with people
