  Advanced sub-professional land surveying work performed in the field under the supervision of the County Surveyor or designee.

  In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

  Assists the survey party chief and field crew in all applicable surveying and mapping applications including but not limited to; the physical measurement of angles, distances, profiles, data collection and subordinate staff direction and supervision.
  
  Sets up and assists with the operation of electronic total station, data collection, digital levels, GPS, data collector, calculators and all other survey equipment.
  
  Assists in basic field note preparations, computations, project planning, implementation and coordination with staff and the public.
  
  Maintains, adjusts and cares for all surveying instruments.
  
  Directs survey crew activities in the Party Chiefs absences.
  
  Researches support documentation for field and office surveying activities.
  
  Assists office support staff and survey party members including the survey party chief.
  
  Performs manual laboring duties including chaining and line clearing.
  
  Requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to perform duties related to job assignment.
  
  May include office related assignments.
  
  Performs work related to this job description as required.
  
  KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  Knowledge and experience of applicable current technology, survey instruments, equipment, methods, practices, terminology, basic personal computer skills and minimum technical standards for surveying and mapping.
  
  Knowledge of mathematics to include algebra, geometry, and trigonometry desired.
  
  Knowledge of identifying work hazards and implement applicable safety precautions.
  
  Ability to interpret plans and surveys, field notes, data collection files, perform basic calculations, geometry, and prepare survey field notes accurately and neatly.
  
  Ability to lead projects and survey technicians in the absence of the party chief or as assigned.
  
  Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  
  Ability to be outside and perform manual work in various environments including traffic, roads, construction sites, rural rugged lands, and over water bodies.
  
  Ability to swim and navigate on or across water bodies.
  
  Ability to be reliable and able to work well with others.
  
  Ability to operate and maintain modern/current technical survey equipment and programs, instruments such as Total Stations, Data-Collectors (Leica), Digital Levels, GPS, and hand held calculators.
  
  Ability to perform work with considerable standing, walking, and carrying of equipment; perform medium to heavy laborious tasks while working in extreme and varied outdoor environments for extended amounts of time.
  
  Ability to perform work requiring considerable standing, walking, digging, bending, lifting up to forty (40) lbs., manual dexterity, stamina, agility, and good visual and hearing acuity.
  
  Ability to perform work in adverse weather conditions, at times at night; exposed to sun, insects, traffic, noise, fumes, and chemicals.
  
  Ability to physically traverse over-under natural and man-made obstacles.
  
  Ability to safely and rapidly cross, work and navigate roadways and varied traffic conditions while carrying equipment.
  
  Ability to perform medium to heavy lifting and set-up of all survey related material and equipment.
  
  Ability to maneuver and operate light machinery, support equipment such as machetes, chain saws, traffic control signs/stands, small boats, motors, 4 x 4 vehicles and all-terrain vehicles.
  
  Ability to perform operation of water vessels (boats and related vessels).
  
  Ability to train subordinate staff or employees as needed for extended periods of time.Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, including courses in mathematics. Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Instrument Technician in a related survey field. Knowledge of applicable Land Surveying principles and basic computations.
  
  Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one (1) year.
  
  Experience and abilities in field survey data processing a plus.
  
  Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.
  
  CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  Ability to obtain and maintain Florida Department of Transportation Traffic Safety (MOT) certification or have the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
  
  A successful completion of the Certified Surveyor in Training (CST) Level 2 (or higher) and familiarity in the use AutoCAD preferred.
  
  Possession of a valid Florida operator license in good standing is required for the position along with ability to operate survey vehicles for extended amount of time.
