Work involves leading and supervising the fieldwork of a survey party team in collecting and compiling data for construction work, land surveys, and other survey-related functions, and training and evaluating crew members

Ability to reduce and plot field notes and make field engineering computations. Ability to operate survey instruments in the performance of survey work. Ability to interpret engineering specification and plans. Ability to lie out and supervise the work of assigned personal in a manner conducive to full performance.

Acts as chief of a survey party team engaged in procuring field data necessary for the preparation of plans for streets and other public works projects, as well as other land survey projects.

Investigates construction projects for street, sewer lines, and water lines, and establishes line and grade for construction work. Sets slope stakes, and computes and runs horizontal and vertical curves.

Checks work for conformance to plans and specifications. Prepares drawings, maps, and other records pertaining to field survey work. Records survey notes in field books.

Initiates and/or reviews and effectively recommends to supervisor, for approval by the department director for hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary and commendatory actions.

Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of progressively responsible surveying computations and data collector experience required.

Preference will be given to those with MOT and Survey Technician Level I, II and III certifications.

A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Must have a working knowledge of the Florida Survey related Statutes and Minimum Technical Standards.

Ability to operate surveying instruments in the performance of surveying work.

Ability to reduce and plot field notes, make field engineering computations.

Ability to interpret engineering specifications and plans.

Ability to layout and supervise the work of assigned personnel in a manner conducive to full performance.

Ability to oversee the work of a team engaged in providing specific services, completing specific projects, or assisting other units.

Must possess the ability to perform entry-level professional work including basic data analysis and synthesis, report creation, process performance, and regulatory or compliance activities. Work often involves statistics, operations analysis, or forecasting.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Skilled in the use and care of surveying instruments.

Considerable knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry.

Knowledge of the field aspects of Global Position Systems data collection methods.

Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems, computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.

Knowledge needed to operate more complex and technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD.

Ability to see (perceive color, depth, and texture), smell, hear (preferably at above average levels), and speak.

Required to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings.

Department Specific trainings per position may be required.
