      In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

      Reporting to the Director, Energy Efficiency and Conservation, the Sustainability Coordinator (SC) works in a team environment with other Energy Efficiency and Conservation staff, other Health Authority units and stakeholders, as well as independently. The SC is responsible for guiding and organizing Island Health s efforts to operationalize the organization s sustainability policy as well as developing and coordinating the Green Champion Program, Island Health s new staff sustainability engagement program. Travel is a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island health Authority (Island Health) in accordance with the service assignment.

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      Education, Training And Experience

      A level of education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline such as Environmental/Resource Management, Business, Marketing, Public Relations or related field. A minimum of 3 years' experience coordinating projects and/or implementing programs in a complex, multi-site organization. Additional certifications such as LEED Green Associate, Community Based Social Marketing and Project Management are desired. Health care experience would be an asset or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

      Skills And Abilities

      • Valid BC Driver's license required.
      • Broad-based knowledge of and commitment to sustainable practices with respect to buildings, infrastructure, energy, water, procurement, waste, transportation, grounds and indoor environmental quality
      • Thorough knowledge/experience with volunteer management principles and community-based social marketing
      • Ability to manage self, program, consultants and volunteers
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; listens well and encourages open exchange of information and idea using appropriate communication media
      • Experience in developing collaborative and positive working relationships in complex organizations; creates connections, trust and shared meaning with individuals and groups and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
      • Ability to inspire vision; identify, establish and communicate clear and meaningful goals and outcomes
      • Ability to establish priorities and be results-oriented in a dynamic and changing environment balancing multiple activities concurrently
      • Ability to synthesize and interpret complex concepts and data; thinks analytically and conceptually; questions and challenges the status quo to identify issues, solve problems and design and implement effective processes across systems and stakeholders
      • Ability to facilitate complex discussions and develop behaviour-change tools; ability to facilitate and present to large groups
      • Advanced word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software skills
      • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
      • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
