      We are currently seeking a full time Sustainable Energy Systems Engineer to work in our Sustainable Buildings and Grids Team! In this role you will lead meaningful projects that have a world-real impact in decarbonization. Your research and analysis will inform business decision making across several industries. This position requires knowledge of and experience in distribution grid modeling and simulation, and in developing optimization and controls for DERs and building assets. The position will be located in Princeton, New Jersey.

      In this role you will

      • Lead and support complex research projects related to sustainable site energy systems design, building energy management, grid model development, and techno-economic analysis related to DERs, electrification, and other building and industrial assets
      • Develop and implement advanced methods and tools related to distribution systems operation, control, modeling, and simulation with IBRs
      • Identify pre-development opportunities to create the next generation of sustainable technology offerings from across the Siemens business units
      • Perform research, development, and consulting projects collaborating with colleagues, customers, national laboratories, and universities

      The Candidate

      Qualified candidates will have:

      PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computational Science, Mechanical Engineering or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computational Science, Mechanical Engineering plus 3 years of relevant experience.

      The ideal candidate will have experience in distribution grid modeling and simulation, and in developing algorithms and control framework for distribution energy management systems with DERs and electrification (e.g. PV, BESS, building thermal energy storage, heat pumps, EV charging) in response to electricity markets, retail tariffs, carbon emissions, etc.

      The candidate must have demonstrated strong skills in:

      • Distribution automation and operations
      • Stochastic optimization
      • Data analysis and visualization
      • Computational and algorithmic concepts and techniques
      • Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Julia, C/C++, MATLAB
      • Experience in power system simulation tools such as OpenDSS, GridLAB-D, CYMDIST, PyDSS, Synergee.
      • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
      • Teamwork oriented

      The preferred candidate will have experience in:

      • probabilistic modeling
      • system stability analysis
      • developing advanced models and controls for managing grid-edge resources to enhance grid flexibility, reliability, and resilience
      • working with utilities, system operators, or other relevant electric power industry stakeholders.

      Up to 20% travel may be required.
