      Description

      POSITION SUMMARY:
      Responsible for assisting with the instruction of Pre-School, Parent/Child, Youth and Adult Swim Programs. Assist to ensure classes are conducted in a safe manner, utilizing the YMCA of the USA Swimming Lessons Program.
      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

      1. Assist with instructing the swimming lessons in accordance to YMCA guidelines, using appropriate age and class level instructional curriculum and methods, incorporating the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all lessons.
      2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
      3. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules, and as appropriate refers students and parents to other Y programs.
      4. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
      5. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
      6. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
      7. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
      8. Supports The Y’s Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards (HEPA), encouraging children, adults and families to adopt a healthy lifestyle and role-models the standards.
      9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

      Qualifications


      QUALIFICATIONS:
      1. Minimum age requirement – 16 years of age.
      2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
      3. Oxygen Administration Certification.
      4. YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant or YMCA Lifeguard Certification (or its equivalent as stated in Florida State Statues).
      5. YMCA Parent Child and Preschool or Youth and Adult Swimming Instructor (or its equivalent) preferred.
      6. Complete YMCA of the USA New Employee Orientation e-learning course.
      Physical Demands:
      This position will require sudden movements, swimming, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, running and lifting.
