      Position overview

      We are looking for experienced chemist to join us in a role of Synthesis Scientist for UP and VE resins. In this new and exciting role you will work directly on developing unsaturated polyester (UP) and vinyl-ester (VE) resins and formulations for target applications in composites area. Main responsibilities of this role include to manage new product development projects and to provide technical support to internal and external customers.

      Responsibilities

      • Initiates and conducts research projects to develop new unsaturated polyester (UP) and vinyl-ester (VE) products and formulations for composite applications.
      • Understands structure of property relations and technical challenges by setup, execute and evaluate DOEs to target the required product profile.
      • Works cross-functional with different R&D groups and positions including long-term research, synthesis group and pilot team.
      • Designs and sets up laboratory equipment, analyzes results, and recommends courses of action based on available chemical and engineering information.
      • Works with operations to scale up new products and formulations from lab trials to pilot and commercial production.
      • Actively participates in research departmental safety programs; ensures safe laboratory operations and utilizes all relevant safety processes.
      • Interprets and communicates test results to cross-functional teams globally.
      • Participates in Stage Gate projects as a team leader or team member.
      • Promotes UP and VE resins technology through presentations, publications and participation at trade shows and conferences.
      • Assists customers in troubleshooting issues when using allnex’s technologies.
      • Develops networks within allnex global technical communities to overcome issues, find solutions, and achieve objectives.
      • Provides monthly and quarterly reports on the status and impact of key projects; presents work internally and externally.
      • Follows scientific and patent literature related to the field and provide expert analysis.
      • Oversees the global intellectual property in UP and VE technologies and generates intellectual property when applicable.

      Required skills and experience

      • Master degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, materials science or related discipline. PhD is preferred but not required.
      • 10+ years of experience in R&D or technical service of which at least 5 years in developing UP and VE resins and formulations for composite applications.
      • Knowledge of peroxide cure formulations and styrene-free solutions for composites.
      • Expertise in UP and/or VE is preferred.
      • Solid understanding in polymer physics and polymer chemistry.
      • Proven track record in commercializing new products.
      • A creative and resourceful problem-solver, balancing commercialization speed and scientific rigor in a dynamic environment
      • Fluency in English
