About our Team
TIO is Technology, Infrastructure, and Operations. We build, run, and maintain the systems that run Elsevier Technology products. Data Engineering is a team in TIO providing support to various data products in Elsevier.
About the Role
The DevOps engineer performs moderately difficult research, design, and systems engineering assignments and also responds to system management alerts to handle system/operations exceptions, within the assigned enterprise systems of product offerings. Additionally, this position is also responsible for triage change management support.
Responsibilities
· Applying first-level resolution procedures as documented and following documented escalation procedures for incidents.
· Solving issues or escalating appropriately. Take part in root cause analysis of detected issues
· Being an expert in what is monitored and working together with the expert system engineers to improve monitoring and alerting
· Monitoring the infrastructure and make improvement suggestions on monitoring and alerting
· Involving in triage and documentation of incidents with feedback in post-mortem
· Establishing Operational Maturity measures including runbooks, NewRelic alerting, OpsGenie integration and OCC handover
· Guiding and train OCC System Administrators and take care for regular trainings on system changes
· Inner sources improvements to enhance the recommended tools and deployment standards
Requirements
· Have experience working in system administration with AWS, Windows and Linux
· Highly organized and possess experience providing user support and system troubleshooting
· Be able to carry personal responsibility for high quality changes to a live IT infrastructure.
· Proficient in automation & innovation with scripting languages.
· Experience in Infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, Cloudformation, Ansible, Puppet), CICD (e.g. Jenkins, Github actions, JFrog Xray, Sonarqube), Containers (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), networking (e.g. Route53, VPN), serverless (e.g. Lambda, API gateway)
· Experience in infrastructure performance and cost optimization
· Experience in Internet security
· Have excellent communication skills, written and verbal, excellent customer service skills, exceeding user expectations
